Story
Bruno is an adorable 1-year-old Maltese/Papillon mix with the most charming oversized ears, long little legs, and a goofy smile that will instantly brighten your day. This handsome 14-pound boy has a quirky look that's as unique as his personality, and once you get to know him, it's impossible not to fall in love.
Bruno came to ROOT Rescue as an owner surrender through no fault of his own. Like many dogs who experience a sudden change in their lives, he was initially unsure of his new surroundings and a little hesitant around new people. Thankfully, with patience and the companionship of his foster family's dogs, Bruno quickly began to realize he was safe. Watching the resident dogs helped build his confidence, and before long, his sweet, affectionate personality began to shine.
Bruno forms very strong bonds with the people he trusts. In foster care, he has especially bonded with his female caregiver, so we believe he may do particularly well in a female-only household or with a primary female caregiver who can continue helping him build confidence and feel secure. Above all, Bruno is looking for someone who will give him the patience and understanding he needs while he settles into his new home.
Bruno is both dog-friendly and cat-friendly and enjoys the companionship of other animals. He would do especially well in a home with another friendly, confident dog, as having a canine companion has helped him come out of his shell and feel more at ease. He can also be successful as the only dog with a patient adopter who is willing to let him adjust at his own pace.
Once Bruno feels comfortable, he is an incredibly affectionate little companion. He loves going for walks, enjoys car rides, and simply wants to be close to his people. He is crate trained and enjoys having a cozy space of his own. While we haven't had the opportunity to evaluate him with children, we feel a quieter home without young children would allow him to transition more comfortably and continue building his confidence.
When Bruno first came into our care, his coat was severely matted and uncomfortable, so we had to shave him down completely. As his beautiful coat grows back, his future family should be committed to regular grooming and routine coat maintenance to keep him healthy, comfortable, and looking his best.
Bruno has been fully vetted and is up to date on his vaccinations, dewormed, microchipped, heartworm and Lyme tested, neutered, and veterinarian checked. He is healthy, ready for his forever family, and excited to start his next chapter.
Bruno is looking for either a committed adopter ready to give him the loving home he deserves or a family interested in our foster-to-adopt program. More than anything, he's looking for someone who will give him the patience, stability, and unconditional love every dog deserves.
If you think Bruno could be the perfect addition to your family, we'd love to hear from you!
