Story
Blackberry is a Persian cat who was recently surrendered to our care. He has a calm, gentle personality but requires a quieter home where he can feel safe, relax, and gradually come out of his shell. Blackberry will need to remain on prescription urinary food for the rest of his life, so any potential adopters should be familiar with his dietary and medical needs. Being a Persian, he also benefits from regular grooming and attentive care, so a household experienced with the breed is preferred. Blackberry has been neutered, is up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, and has tested negative for FIV and FeLV. He is a sweet, loving companion looking for a patient and understanding home where he can thrive.

HOW TO ADOPT: This cat is available for adoption by appointment. To schedule a time to meet this cat, please contact Mary at mmccarroll@arl-iowa.org or Cindy at cgerke@arl-iowa.org.---- This cat came from a situation where he did not get the socialization and handling that cats typically get from a young age. Because of this, he will be fearful in new environments and around new people, and will need months of acclimation time to feel safe in a home - He may never enjoy being picked up or held - he will be a "companion" cat for someone who wants a cat to love and care for and is okay not having an affectionate lap cat- Looking for a patient adopter who will give him extra time to adjust and understand that he will hide at first; that he will need patience when introducing grooming, carriers and veterinary visits; and that a relationship with him will likely be built on trust and routine, rather than physical affection- Has lived with other cats his entire life and may benefit from having a calm, confident feline companion to help him feel more secure and show her the ropes in a home environment- Will do best in a quiet, mature, predictable home with a cat-savvy adopter who understands undersocialized or fearful cats; while progress may be slow, it will be so rewarding to watch this cat open up, build trust with his people and ultimately thrive - Children are not a good fit for this cat, and he will thrive in a mature home in a very calm, predictable, quiet environment - Please plan on starting him in one room of your home and giving him quite a bit of time (possibly months) to become comfortable with that area and with you before allowing him access to larger areas of the home; this process will help set him up for success by not overwhelming himAll adoptable cats and kittens are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and FVRCP as appropriate for their age) Primary Color: Black Weight: 7.5 Age: 2yrs 0mths 2wks
