Story
- This cat is available by appointment only. For more information, or to schedule an appointment, please contact Mary at mmccarroll@arl-iowa.org, or Cindy at cgerke@arl-iowa.org ---- Stunning cat looking for an experienced, cat-savvy adopter- She LOVES cheese, and cheese flavored treats, especially Churu (this is a great way to bond with her) - Is quite vocal and will share her loud meow with you, as well as her soft purr- Is NOT a lap cat, and prefers not to be picked up, but enjoys being in the same room with you, and sitting next to you, once trust is established - Requires a committed adopter who is willing and able to provide professional grooming and/or the time and ability to brush her and wipe out her eyes on a regular basis (she likes to be brushed)! - This Persian cat came to us from a large breeding situation after the owner passed away. While undeniably beautiful, their early life was very different from that of a typical house cat. - These cats received limited handling and socialization, which means they may be fearful in new environments and around unfamiliar people. They are not naturally outgoing and may take a long time to feel safe in a home. Many may never enjoy being picked up or held, and affection (if it comes), will be on their terms. At intake, several of these cats were severely matted and many were treated for upper respiratory infections, both common in crowded, high-stress breeding environments. They have received veterinary care and grooming, but these experiences may have been stressful and contribute to their sensitivity to handling. - Because of this background, adopters should expect:•A slow adjustment period, with hiding and avoidance early on,•Patience when introducing grooming, carriers, and veterinary care,•A relationship built on trust and routine rather than physical affection- These cats have lived with other cats their entire lives, and many may benefit from having a calm, confident feline companion to help them feel more secure and show them the ropes in a home environment. - This cat would do best in a quiet, predictable home with an adopter who understands fearful or under-socialized cats and values providing safety and stability over having a cuddly lap cat. While progress may be slow, the right home can help this cat feel safe and thrive in their own way. - Not a good fit for a home with children, so she is looking for a more mature homeAll adoptable cats and kittens are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and FVRCP as appropriate for their age) Primary Color: Silver Weight: 4.5 Age: 4yrs 0mths 1wks

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.AllergiesAlfredo is a lovable and goofy guy with a very strong independent streak! He came into rescue a neglected and matted mess and required some TLC to get him feeling better and living much more comfortably. Alfredo is estimated to be 10-11 years old, he came into our care 4 paw declawed and as many declawed cats are apt to do, he will bite when he’s uncomfortable or mad as this is his only way to defend himself! This doesn’t happen often, but is important to share as he may not be well suited with younger children. Alfredo is happiest as an only pet, he takes a daily prescription medication for allergies (which he isn’t always a fan of) and he does need additional help with grooming himself. We have found that Alfredo is best suited to having a groomer shave him a “lion cut” to keep his fur free of mats and funny enough…Alfredo does best wearing a shirt or body suit! Yes, our little man is a bit of a diva and we’ve learned that keeping a shirt on him stops him from chewing at his skin. So, a wardrobe fit for a king will be a major plus in Alfredo’s eyes! Alfredo's adoption fee is $125 and includes his neuter, microchip, current vaccinations, and an FIV/FeLV test. Alfredo is seeking an indoor only home with adopters that have a history of having kept their pets indoors, altered, and current on vaccinations and preventatives. Our adoption process includes a background check, home visit, and a vet history check. If you would like to meet Alfredo please fill out an adoption application on our website, adopthope.org.    Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 17, 2025, 4:39 pm
