Story
Hello world! My name is Skelly. I'm 13 years old and I am looking for a patient and loving home with no other animals to live out my golden years. Back in October, I was found as a stray out in Saginaw. A kind person brought me to Animal Allies and my journey began. It was immediately obvious that I had been out on my own for quite some time; I was clearly older, very scared, and underweight. After some tests, we found out that I also have hyperthyroidism and will need lifelong medication. It was clear that I wanted attention and love, but I would still get scared and overstimulated when people tried to pet me - occasionally leading to a lash out (swatting and nipping). On the other hand, I would also get sad when people would try to leave my room, and I would go after their legs to stop them and get them to stay with me. This behavior can be off-putting to some, so staff sent me to a foster home to see how I would do in a home environment instead of the shelter. While in foster I've really come out of my shell and have been having such a fun time. Even though I'm 13 years old, I still LOVE to play! My foster introduced me to feathered wand toys and I go crazy for them - I run and leap as if I'm still a kitten! I also love looking out windows, getting yummy treats, and more than anything being around my person/people. I'm a total lap cat and want to always be around you, even if just passively. I'm still very much a princess however and will get frustrated with you if I'm not getting enough attention. At first, I would let my foster know my frustration by giving nips, but she's been teaching me that there are better ways to ask for love. I'm most comfortable only being pet on my head and ears, but I love to rub up on people and pet them! When I get worked up and bitey, my foster just calmly says "nooo" and I'll stop and go back to rubbing on her. I'm definitely looking for a home with humans who understand cat body language and have the patience to work with me. Once I trust you, I really am the sweetest little lady! I have the best purr, enjoy snuggles, and am so much fun to be with! I hope there is someone out there with a heart full of love and patience that is willing to give me the adoring home I've been longing for!SKELLY'S ADOPTION FEE: $25 plus tax.
