Story
Hi, I’m Shai! I’m a Plott Hound mix who loves people and enjoys being close to my humans. I’m a very active dog, so I’d love a home where I can get plenty of exercise and playtime. I have struggled with some health issues that caused me to struggle keeping weight on, but my caretakers tell me I have improved tremendously over the past six weeks and am at a good stable weight and might need to be on a particular food for a long time. They have also offered to help cover the future cost of my care if needed so please ask the staff about my health history. I would probably like to be the only dog, but I’m open to meeting your dog to see if we get along. I’m friendly, sweet, and ready to be someone’s loyal companion. If you’re looking for a loving, energetic dog who just wants a family to call his own, come meet me at the Humane Society. I’d love to see if we’re the perfect match!

Story
A note from Red's Buddy: I took Red on a walk for the first time on Monday. It was a very pleasant experience. A 3 years old Catahoula Leopard/Cattle dog mix, he arrived at the shelter on 09/17. We first tried the playground where Red chased the tennis ball that he systematically brought back. He then sat, ready for the next throw. Before we left for our walk, he took care of business. He barked in a friendly manner, wanting to engage with another dog on the other side of the fence. He quickly lost interest and moved on. Red stayed with me, good on the leash. He appreciated the treats which he took laying down. When I stopped to record some observations on the spot, he sat next to me, unhurried and calm. He was totally carefree while people passed by, by foot or on bikes. He did not mind the annoying gun range (which disturbs so many other pups at the shelter). He never lost his cool. The whole time, he was patient and affectionate. Once back at the parking lot, while I opened the hatch, he jumped in right away, uninvited. That sealed the deal. I was going to take Red again, this time downtown. Yesterday I arranged to pick Red up in the early morning, We were going to meet a couple of girlfriends. The 4 of us roamed around for a couple of hours, met several people complimenting Red for his good behavior. He would have liked to interact with pups, wagging his tail, ready to play. The weather was so great that we decided to stop at 11th Street for a bite to eat. Although surrounded by a couple of other dogs, Red remained collected, sitting or lounging by our table. He was so patient! He never lost his cool. Trusting, Red was very easy to handle. His previous owner did a great job teaching him excellent manners. He is healthy and laid-back. My friends gave him an A+ and I decided I would take him to Anarchy Brewing this coming Friday (3 PM to 4.30 PM) for some interaction with other dogs. Maybe I will meet you there.
