Story
Meet Blaine, a 1- to 2-year-old Plott Hound mix with a heart full of joy. Blaine embodies friendship; he is friendly, playful, sweet, goofy, energetic, and loves to cuddle. Despite his fear of cats, Blaine's enthusiasm for life and his love for human companionship shine through. He is always ready for a game or a quiet evening snuggled up beside you. Adopting Blaine means bringing home a bundle of love and a faithful friend who promises to fill your days with laughter and affection. Dogs are usually tested with other dogs their size, and we encourage meet-and-greets with your dog before adoption. Cat tests are available if requested, but they only check for clear aggression. Always be careful when introducing dogs to cats. Advice about dogs living with children is based on behavior like energy level and how the dog handles touch. Young children should never be left alone with dogs, and we cannot guarantee how any dog will behave with kids or other pets. Behavior seen in the shelter is just a snapshot and may change in a home. Dogs come from many backgrounds and may need training, time, and patience. Dogs should not be fed together unless you know they do not guard food. We also suggest learning about a dog's breed or mix to be sure it fits your family. Moving to a new home can be stressful for dogs. Use the Rule of 3 to help them adjust: First 3 days: Dogs may feel scared, tired, overexcited, or not want to eat. First 3 weeks: Dogs start learning routines and may show new behaviors. Keep things calm and avoid busy places. First 3 months: Dogs usually feel settled and more comfortable. Story
*Adoption Fee Partially SponsoredHe may not be red, but he is a big and loving boy. Clifford, a 3 year old Plott Hound mix, was surrendered here after his owners became homeless. Originally picked up as a stray by them years ago, although it's clear from his joyous personality that Clifford was loved, there were limits to his owner's ability to care for him. Clifford was hit by a car at least three times, and he had unfortunately never seen a vet before we got him. Due to this, he does have an old injury on his front leg. The leg was broken and although splinted at the time of injury, the bones were not able to be properly aligned. This caused the leg to be shorter and for the leg to bow when pressure gets placed on it. After x-rays of the leg, we opted to see an orthopedic surgeon - our desire was and is to give Clifford the best quality of life possible. Unfortunatley, the specialist did not think that there is any surgical fix for an injury this old. Our options are limited - amputation if the leg seems to cause him discomfort or if not, keeping his leg as is.That's where you come in. We are hoping to find a foster or foster-to-adopt home for Clifford to hang out in while we gather more data about his comfort and function with the leg. Although our dogs receive attention and playtime all throughout the day, it's much different than the one-on-one and personalized attention that dogs in a home environment. With more information about his daily use of his leg and potential pain he may be experiencing, we will then be able to make the decision that best preserves his comfort and happiness. Clifford is accustomed to livnig in a home with young children. He keeps a clean kennel and is reported to be housebroken. So far, Clifford is friendly with the dogs he meets. He does ride well in the car but thinks he needs to sit on your lap during trips. Clifford is the definition of a "himbo" - affectionate, purehearted, a bit of a meathead - he has no idea how big and strong he is, and allllll he wants is affection. He is higher energy and loves playing outside and sniffing around. He definitely believes he is a lapdog sized. He's a big fan of fetch and loves to catch the frisbee. He is such a loving, joyful, and goofy dog bursting with personality. He did not deserve the cruel hand he was repeatedly dealt. Our goal is to facilitate making the rest of his life so amazing that it makes up for what he has lived through during his first 3 years. If you're interested in fostering or foster-to-adopting Clifford, please let us know. Contact the shelter at (417) 592-2512 or email adopt.ffaa@gmail.com with any questions about Clifford or what fostering with us entails. (As always, we provide all supplies needed including food and support.)
