  A quick look at Wanda and you probably think she is a Terrier mix. Actually, she is a Portuguese Podengo Pequeno, a breed known for its many wonderful qualities, most notably playful, charming, lively, inquisitive, and intelligent.  Wanda certainly has all of these qualities and more. Although she is about 7-10 years old, Wanda has the energy and gusto of a much younger dog. She is a very bright and friendly girl, always ready to engage for playtime or affection. Wanda embraces all the attention she receives, and enjoys it all from playing with toys, playing fetch, romping in the yard, to cuddling up for love and belly rubs.             Wanda is ready to brighten up a new family with her spry, fun, sweet personality. She gets along with other dogs, but would be fine as the only dog in her new home. She currently weighs about 21-22 pounds, but should be about 18 pounds at proper weight. Wanda continues to be passed on for our Shih Tzus and other smaller, younger dogs, and has been at the rescue for way too long.  Won’t you consider giving this amazing girl a chance, and put in an application today?Please watch the video at the end of the photos to see Wanda displaying all her Podengo greatness. Hi I'm Chewy! I'm a mid-aged Chihuahua and Pug mix, and I've had a bit of a journey, coming all the way from the Texas border abandoned and left alone with a unknown past of neglect. life has taught me to be pretty nervous so I tend to keep my distance and avoid people so I need patience and time to let me open up and trust but with a slow approach I love head scratchy and gentle pets all over I also love to bounce around and play and I love other doggy pals, I’m ready for a family who’s ready to let me blossom! I get very nervous when the staff try to leash me or I feel cornered so I will need time and confidence training to be my best self! so I really need a home that understands my needs. So a home with adults or older kids who respect my boundaries would be best for me. The leash is still a big challenge for me it’s new and scary but I'm hoping to find someone who's willing to work with me slowly and kindly. If you have a quiet home and a big heart, maybe we can learn to trust each other and become a family!

Meet Peanut! This sweet Chihuahua mix boy was surrendered by his previous owner and came to Big Dog Ranch with a hurt leg. Thanks to our amazing medical team, he’s getting the care he needs and is on the road to recovery. Peanut is a loving little guy who can’t wait to find a forever home filled with snuggles, gentle play, and lots of love.
