Story
Meet Squid – the Sweetest Snuggler Looking for His Forever Home! Squid is an adorable 12# pup who will be turning 2 years old in May 2026 and is ready to find his perfect match! This handsome boy is neutered, healthy, and doing beautifully after recovering from a few fractures in his past — you’d truly never know it now with how happily he trots around and plays. His foster mom always tells him that his scars are cool, and Squid wears his story proudly. Squid’s best forever home would have another similar-sized dog to keep him company and people who are home often (work-from-home or retired would be ideal). He loves being close to his humans and is happiest curled up next to you on the couch or tucked under a cozy blanket. He was not crate trained when he came into rescue and while he is not a fan of being crated (unless he has a dog friend nearby he can see), it is necessary while he is unsupervised to keep him safe. He does take anxiety medication when he is crated for short periods when he is not able to be near his foster dog siblings. We hope in time, this will no longer be needed. When he’s not snoozing or cuddling, Squid enjoys chewing on his favorite toys and showing off his playful side. This boy is very playful and energetic! He’s a gentle soul with a big heart and has so much love to give. He loves sleeping close to his person, overnight, in the human bed. He should be in a home without dogs larger than he is and without young children. Our preference is someone with Italian Greyhound breed experience. His adopter will need to be willing to make safety modifications in the home, as necessary, to decrease chance of injury as most young Italian Greyhounds do not have great safety awareness.  Good Boy Highlights: • Kennels in his special acrylic kennel for short periods of time (provided to adopter)• Walks great on a leash and enjoys walks. • Well potty trained — reliably uses a large potty pad or goes outside. He may have an occasional accident in the crate if nervous. • Very affectionate, velcro dog and very people-oriented. If you’re looking for a loyal, snuggly companion who will make every day feel a little cozier, Squid might just be your perfect match. Squid is fostering in the Lincoln NE area and will be looking for adoptive homes nearby. With any questions, PLEASE EMAIL US AT: NEIGRESCUE@GMAIL.COM. If you are in our area and would like to fill out an application to adopt, please visit Midwestigrescue.com and fill out an online application. NOTE: We will only receive your application if you are an Iowa, Nebraska or South Dakota resident. All other applications will automatically go to your state representative. Please EMAIL US TO LET US KNOW YOU SUBMITTED APP SO WE CAN BE SURE IT IS RECEIVED. Adopters will need to visit dog in the foster home and transport home. We do NOT transport dogs for adoption. All members of the household will need to be present at meet and greet including dogs in the home. Our #1 goal is to find the best fit for each dog in our care so we will review all applications.February 16, 2026, 12:59 pm

Story
Opal Chihuahua Spayed female 9 years old, 8 lbs. Opal is a senior chihuahua that tips the scales at 8.5 lbs and would do best in a quiet home (no small children) where she is the only pet. She might be compatible with another dog or cat as long as Opal is not obligated to be friends. She is approximately 9 years old, has been described as having an “old soul” and is somewhat set in her ways. Opal is up to date on all her shots, has a microchip and is house trained. She considers her crate to be her safe place. She knows a few basic commands and prefers women, but will open up to men who "speak" chihuahua. Opal does like to play, once she feels safe. She occasionally gets the “spinners” when she is excited. She is a bit sensitive around her head and neck, so she needs a fenced yard (privacy preferred) because putting a collar or harness on her can be quite stressful for all involved. Opal is not on any medications nor does she have any conditions requiring special foods. If you love when a big attitude comes in a little package, Opal is worth a look!! An adoption form is available at  nebraskanokill.org Suggested adoption donation: $200    January 27, 2026, 8:54 am
