Story
*** If you are interested in learning more about or adopting one of our pets, please submit an adoption application here: https://www.gatewayareahumanesociety.com/application-to-adopt *** Penny gets along well with all dogs and would do best in a home with at least one very confident dog to lead her into routine. She enjoys playtime with chasing and gentle wrestling. She loves chew toys (she’s a strong chewer - so needs the heavy duty kind) but gets scared when toys are thrown, so she prefers toys she can enjoy on the ground. Speaking of being scared... she is timid and will be shy when she goes to a new home. Because she may bolt when frightened, she will need a fenced yard or someone committed to keeping her on leash when taken outside. She absolutely loves her crate and feels safest having a space of her own. She willingly spends most of her time there, and is very quiet. She never whines or barks when crated or otherwise, unless she sees someone carrying a large object toward her! She is a quiet, gentle, easygoing dog who just needs a patient home to help her continue gaining confidence & show her lots of love. Adoption Fee: $200 The adoption fee includes your pet's: - Spay/Neuter - Annual Vaccines - Rabies - Microchipping NOTE: A completed application is required for all adoptions and prior to any visitations. Completing this application does not guarantee approval, nor does it obligate you to adopt if approved. All visits and adoptions are by appointment only. We do our best to ensure that the adoptable animals are in the best health possible, but you will need to take your pet to your regular vet to ensure complete health. Keep in mind that any pet is a lifelong commitment. When considering adoption, remember what life is like with work, school, hobbies, or kid's activities.

Story
Chip is a young adult terrier mix, that has found himself in need of a new home. You see, he came to SPCHS when he was just a pup, was adopted quickly. Now, a little over 2 and a half years later, his adopters are both working, he's stuck in a their backyard 10-12 hours each workday and his pet parents don't feel that's fair to him. The reason he is stuck outside is because he's decided that it's fun to terrorize the family's cats when no one is looking, so he can not be left alone in the house with them. He also learned how to scale their 6-foot privacy fence -- they've been able to eliminate his escapes by installing an invisible fence wire at the top of their privacy fence. This keeps him contained, but with it getting colder outside -- well it's not the best for him, and he's definitely lonely! The good news is that he can be left alone in the house IF THERE ARE NO CATS. He doesn't destroy woodwork or furniture, and is a perfect gentleman. Chip is a little under 3 years old, neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on shots. He is high energy when outdoors, but inside is pretty relaxed. Chip is great around children -- however, he not good with kids under 12, as he has been known to nip at them. He's very athletic and would do well with an active family in which someone will be home most of the time to supervise and play with him when he's outdoors. He is also a big time snuggler who wants to be as close to you as he can be -- ALL THE TIME. He’s very sweet and sensitive, and he’s definitely at his best when he has someone he loves with him. Let him sit with you on the couch or bed and he’s in heaven. He’s good on a leash and is crate trained. Chip needs his time outside and loves to run and play with other dogs, toys and best of all - interactive play with humans. Chip is very smart, sweet, affectionate, well behaved, fun, and happy boy. He loves to be involved in anything that we are doing. His happy place is sitting right beside you. He loves outdoor activities and being able to run full speed. He’s just a great dog -- he's not a barker or whiner.
