Story
Pet Location: Summer is currently living in a foster home. If you’d like to schedule a time to meet her, please contact Wayside Adoptions at (816) 986-4426.My Friends at Wayside say: - I`m a gentle and charming lady who would love a couch to snooze on!- I am fully housebroken in my foster home.- I have been described as an easy going who loves to lean in for pets.- I have displayed some touch sensitivities. Ask our staff for more info!- I am eligible for a Slumber Pawty, a 7-10 day in-home trial period. Please visit our website for additional information. My home needs are: - I need a home without other dogs - I prefer having your attention all to myself! - I enjoy short walks, but I am unable to walk long distances or use stairs. I require easy access (with minimal walking) to an outdoor area for potty breaks.- If you have kids in the home 9 years old and younger, I will need to meet them since I can be nervous around new people and loud noises. Hi there, I’m Summer! I’m a sweet, mellow, low-maintenance friend who longs for a quiet routine with a loving family all my own. I’m an easy dog in so many ways…I won’t ask for much, I don’t require constant attention, and I’m super easy to fall in love with. I’m just a really nice companion who is happy to join you for leisurely walks, while spending the rest of the day lounging around the house. If that life sounds good to you, too, I hope you will consider adopting me and making my dreams come true. I’m an adorable, 6-year-old, 90-pound Pointer mix, with gentle eyes, the sweetest face, and an unassuming, well-mannered, delightful personality. I’m even already fully housebroken. I’ve been diligently working on losing some weight, and I hope you will continue to help me out with that, by providing me with healthy, nutritious food and daily light exercise. I first came to Wayside 5 years ago, and I was adopted. Sadly, I’m homeless once again and looking for another chance at the happy, carefree life that I deserve. It felt so lonely and stressful to be back at the shelter. Lucky for me, Foster Dad showed up at just the right time. He took me home, and he makes me feel special and loved. Ah, I can finally relax. And it feels so good. I settled in quickly and made myself right at home. Foster Dad lets me take life at my own pace, which has helped to put me at ease. He loves my laidback, agreeable style and says that I’m so easy to live with.

Story
Meet Dexter: Your Future Companion Dexter is a charming and affectionate male Pointer mix dog, estimated to be approximately 3-4 years of age. Weighing a solid 50 pounds, he is the ideal medium size for both relaxed indoor companionship and active outdoor exploration. Dexter's defining characteristic is his unwavering enthusiasm for life and affection. He is playful and cuddly. His ideal home to perform these tasks are someone who works from home or is home at least 8 hours a day. If not, he needs a solid place to stay as his anxiety gets the best of him. He has not been tested with kids, but our recommendation is kids of 12 years of age that understand how to read dog behavior. Dexter is being fostered with dogs of all ages/sizes and a cat. We suggest his future home is with dogs his size or smaller and non-dominate males. On days when the sun is shining he loves to sunbathe on the deck or explore the fenced in yard. He is curious about his environment so it is suggested he have a fenced yard. If Dexter sounds like the companion you have been waiting for, please reach out via Lucky13rescue.org he would be happy to meet you. Dexter has a heart murmur that is currently in a watch-and-listen status. With consistent exercise and training, he is expected to have a fulfilling life. Dexter is fully vetted, neutered, and current on all vaccinations. He is also microchipped. His adoption fee is $225. He is expected to grow into a medium-to-large adult, although his breed and mature size are best guesses. Story
Meet Ellie, an almost 3-month-old farm dog mix with an adorable freckled face and a sweet, playful personality. Ellie came to Heart of America Humane Society with her littermates, Sawyer and Darla, after their owner lost her home and the puppies were left living in a field. Once Ellie entered foster care, we noticed she wasn’t using one of her rear legs. X-rays revealed a serious fracture that cannot be repaired, so Ellie will be having the leg amputated. Ellie will need a period of rest and recovery following surgery, including limited activity while her incision heals. Her foster family and the rescue will make sure she receives the care she needs as she adjusts to life on three legs. Young dogs are often wonderfully adaptable, and we expect Ellie will be ready to run, play and enjoy life once she has healed. Her medical journey doesn’t mean she has to put her search for a family on hold. Ellie is available for adoption, and we are accepting applications now. Her adopter will need to be prepared to support her through any remaining recovery and follow her veterinarian’s instructions, but they will also get the joy of watching this resilient little girl grow into a happy, confident dog. All Heart of America Humane Society dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations. Adoption fee is $250.
