You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If interested in any of our animals for adoption, or to foster an animal, please fill out the respective application here to get the process started. Visit our FAQ webpage for commonly asked questions about our adoption/foster process. Meet Gretel! Gretel is a hilarious, adorable, and endlessly entertaining 2-year-old pup who’s still figuring out grown-up dog life. She may look mature, but her puppy energy shines through in everything she does—she loves to zoom around, play, and happily shower anyone she trusts with hugs and kisses. Gretel is still mastering her house manners and would thrive with some consistent training. She uses potty pads in her foster home and is already making great progress. She gets along well with the other dogs in her house but won’t hesitate to stand up for herself—especially when provoked by her foster home’s feisty 5-pound yorkie! Gretel would love a playful canine companion but would also be perfectly content as the only dog in the home. While she can be shy or nervous in new situations, Gretel quickly warms up and becomes the life of the party. She loves squeaky toys, cozy naps on the couch beside her people, and of course—food. Gretel is small (15lbs) but exuberant and tends to jump when she’s excited, so a home without young children (under 6) would be best. She hasn’t been tested with cats. We’re not quite sure of her breed mix, but Gretel’s coat is soft, low-shedding, and doesn’t need regular trimming. She may take a little time to trust, but once she feels safe, you’ll discover her incredibly sweet, silly personality that brings joy every day.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal. Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed. The Petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our animals. Visual breed identification in animals is unreliable so for most of the animals we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each animal as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our animals based on personality, not by breed label. Thank you for looking through our list of animals needing forever homes and choosing rescue first. We appreciate you stopping by. December 8, 2025, 1:40 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Squirt!  They don’t come much cuter than this guy! Squirt is a 10-year-old terrier mix, thought to be a Pomeranian/Cairn Terrier or Norwich Terrier mix.  He weighs 10 pounds, has a rather coarse long coat of fawn and white, and dark brown eyes that melt you.  Squirt came from a rural shelter.  We don’t know his history, but it is obvious he was someone’s pet at one time.  He is very comfortable in the foster home and made himself right at home.  Within a few minutes of arriving in his foster home, he made friends with the family dogs.  He is curious and friendly with people he meets.  He seems to like other dogs, but doesn't play with them. Squirt may be 10ish, but don’t let his age fool you.  Squirt has spunk and spirit, and enjoys all the things the younger pups do, including his daily walks, car rides, a little playtime, mealtime, and snuggling.  This little guy has been such a gentleman in his foster home.  He is house trained, crate trained, and very quiet.  He doesn’t ask for much – some good food, a warm place to lay his head, preferably on your favorite chair or on your bed, some playtime, and of course, pets and snuggles.  Squirt is UTD on vaccines, neutered and microchipped.  He had recent bloodwork and Urinalysis done.  His Heartworm test was negative, and his Urinalysis was negative.  His bloodwork shows some elevation in BUN/Creat Ratio and low Creatinine levels.  These results may be due to his age, lack of good food/malnutrition, possible kidney disease, or other age-related condition.   He has only a few teeth, so his tongue tends to hang out of the side of his mouth, but this gives him character!  He eats softened kibble and wet food without issue and laps up his food with gusto! Squirt does have occasional itchy skin and the vet suggested gentle baths 2x monthly and daily brushing to keep his coat clean.        Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue microchips all dogs and cats before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the shoulder blades and are another form of identification should the animal get lost. The microchips are registered to    Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue. The microchip is transferred to the adopter once the adoption is complete. Microchips are enrolled through AKC ReUnite.  The adopter pays a one-time fee for lifetime enrollment at the time of adoption.     Dogs and Cats still need to have collar with tags should they get lost.
