Story
Meet Prince Leo! This 2-year-old, 18-lb Pom mix was found as a stray in the Bakersfield orchards, an area sadly known as a dumping ground for unwanted dogs. He was wandering in the intense heat alongside three other strays until a Good Samaritan safely trapped them and reached out to Shelter Hope. We don’t know what Leo went through before that day, but being abandoned and left to fend for himself in that heat must have been frightening for a such little dog.

Leo absolutely loves other dogs, and they bring out his playful, curious side. He loves following his doggie friends around, exploring, and finding a cozy spot to settle in. He’s a shy guy with people and needs time to feel comfortable. Once he feels safe, he’ll slowly come closer, sniff you, or happily accept a treat. He enjoys being brushed too!
Leo is a slow-burn love story. You’ll celebrate when he chooses to sit beside you, comes over for a treat, or starts seeking you out on his own. Those little moments mean everything.
Sadly, Leo has been waiting for his forever home at Shelter Hope for almost 8 months. In the meantime, Leo is very loved by our staff. We’ve gotten to know what a special, gentle little guy he is, and it’s hard to see him waiting month after month for the person who will finally give him the security and love he deserves.
Prince Leo is fixed, vaccinated, and microchipped. He has so much love to give, and we’re hoping his person is out there waiting for him too. ❤️🐾
