Story

Izzy was adopted about 3 years ago. She is very friendly and loves people. She has lived with a small child the whole time, a large dog who has since passed, and a cat. She gets along well with other pets but she lives for human cuddles. Izzy is somewhere between 8 and 9 years old but still has a lot of spunk. Unfortunately we've been hit with a few unexpected life events that are making it difficult for us to care for her to full capacity. Izzy does struggle with house training. We have tried to train for the last 3 years but have struggled with consistency and can no longer continue. We used to have a doggie door to the yard that she did great with and probably needs again or a VERY consistent routine for potty breaks. She doesn't need a lot of space or a yard as she loves snuggling up inside and just hanging out. We are looking for a family that has time and patience to give her as we haven't been able to. Buffy was found locked inside a cage on the side of a freeway with two other dogs. Likely hundreds of people drove by and did nothing, but one kind woman stopped to help. Her name is Anna and we thank her for saving their lives. They had no collars, tags, or microchips. We don’t know exactly how long they were out there, but by the looks of it, it was likely several days. They had no food or water. Their paws were so caked in dried poop that they were stuck to the metal cage and couldn’t move. Now safe and thriving at Shelter Hope, we named them Xander, Buffy, and Angel. Buffy is a 7-year-old Pom mix weighing about 23 pounds. She is gentle, super sweet, and a bit timid at first, but once she warms up she becomes friendly, affectionate, and very cuddly. She loves attention, enjoys being petted, and is happiest curled up in a lap or resting beside her people. Buffy has a calm, loving nature, does well with other dogs, and is good with kids. Buffy is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready for adoption. She’s looking for a forever home where she can finally feel safe, cherished, and truly at home. ---- Looking to Adopt? Meet Seri! She is the sweetest most adorable girll! She is a 2 year old that was rescued from a dog meat farm in South Korea. We have partners we work with there that pull these dogs from the worst horrors imaginable. Many of these dogs start off in horiffic puppy mill type facilities on tiny rabbit cage size wire crates in complete filth. If they are not sold at 6 or 8 weeks then they either stay for a couple years to be used to breed more and then are sold off to the meat trade, or they are sold off right away. Jindo's and Tosa's are the most common meat type dogs, and are very commonly bred specifically for their meat and the meat farms also act as breeding farms until they reach a good age and weight. South Korea is one of the only countries that actually farms dogs for their meat. Restaurants will serve a dish called " bosintang ", which stands for "dog meat soup". It's a popular dish in South Korea, and is said to act as an aphrodisiac for men. Little dogs are used for elixirs and potions. The younger generation is mostly against this practice and many choose to not eat them, and we can only hope in time with education and generations of change that an end will come to this horrific trade. Seri and some of her family and friends have been flown here for a chance at a future and a real life. These are miracle dogs that they are alive today. Our adoption fee is $600 which helps offset some of the flight costs. Pomi was rescued from a kill shelter. Many of these dogs at the shelter have barely survived the hardships of street life, car accidents, or abuse, only to end up in shelters. But once they enter the shelter system, they often disappear completely from society’s view, living lives no different from death itself. WEACT's Pomi was found in the Hongseong County Shelter with a completely shattered pelvis. Examinations showed that the injury had occurred long ago and had been left untreated. But what broke our hearts the most was that, even with her body so damaged, she was still cradling her young puppies in her arms. Pomi, a strong mother who tried to protect her babies even in despair deeper than death. WEACT performed an emergency surgery to realign her broken bones and perform a bone graft, and Fomi is now steadily recovering.
