Story
I am a special girl that is looking for a home I can flourish in! I will need a quiet home that will give me lots of structure and guidance. I would like to be the center of attention so I would prefer not to live with any other pets. Children might make me a little nervous so an adult only household is the most ideal for me! If you are interested in adopting me please contact our Behavior and Flow Coordinator at ericaj@hsvc.org.

Story
Introducing Harryson Ford! He’s a delightful and friendly boy with a lovable personality. He’s very sweet, gets along well with other dogs, and is great on a leash. He does well with kids and is very affectionate! Although, he doesn't like to be picked up. Harryson was originally adopted by a family to help their autistic child learn responsibility, and he quickly became their child’s best friend. Now that the child is an adult and moving out, he can’t bring Harryson along. The family was unable to keep him and brought him to us. Be ready to adopt. Adoptions can happen quickly so be prepared for our call, only apply for dogs that every family member in the home wants, and wait to apply until you return from your vacation. Please fill out our online application and our adoption counselor will reach out to you to discuss meeting your new family member.

Story
Meet Pawcasso! He's 1 year old. He's still adjusting to the transition to Shelter Hope. He's shy but getting more and more confident every day. He came from Bakersfield Strays, an organization that helps place stray dogs from Bakersfield into rescues that will find them homes. Kern County is overwhelmed with homeless animals. Shelter Hope takes in as many as we can to make sure they don't end up in high kill shelters. He does well with other dogs and, with some time and patience, he will approach you for love and pets. Be ready to adopt. Adoptions can happen quickly so be prepared for our call, only apply for dogs that every family member in the home wants, and wait to apply until you return from your vacation. Please fill out our online application and our adoption counselor will reach out to you to discuss meeting your new family member. Please be aware if we have already approved another party for the dog you are interested in, you may not get a call from us.

Story
Roary is a charming, outgoing, and playful young dog with a sweet nature and plenty of energy. Roary came to us from West Valley Shelter after being surrendered by his previous owner. They estimated his age to be 5 years old, but acts much more like 2-3 years. He loves running in the yard, playing with other dogs, and exploring on walks. Roary settles quickly on leash—especially when walking with a calm companion—and rarely pulls after the initial excitement. He’s friendly and curious around people and other dogs, showing interest without being overly reactive. When excited, he may mouth gently, and when anxious, he looks for something to chew as a way to self-soothe. Roary responds well to gentle guidance and enjoys both human and canine companionship. While he’s not a danger to cats, Roary may need a slow and careful introduction in a home with feline friends. He has shown some anxiety with initial contact. He’s intelligent, adaptable, and would thrive in a variety of home environments—especially one with a playful dog buddy. Be ready to adopt. Adoptions can happen quickly so be prepared for our call, only apply for dogs that every family member in the home wants, and wait to apply until you return from your vacation.
