Nikolaus, lovingly called Klaus, is a 10 year old American Eskimo and Pomeranian mix with the energy and spirit of a much younger dog. He is affectionate, gentle, and happiest curled up in your lap or beside you on the couch. He enjoys walks, short play sessions, and being part of everyday home life, but he is also content to relax quietly near his person. Klaus loves baths and grooming and goes to the groomer at least once a month. He eats a wet food diet and is used to being an indoor dog only. He is good with other pets, including cats, and is not aggressive. Klaus can be sensitive about being picked up and does best with someone patient who will move slowly, build trust, and respect his comfort level. Once he feels safe, he bonds very deeply. Due to a housing change, his owner is looking for a loving permanent home or a one year foster in the Wilmington, Delaware area. A calm home where someone is around often would be ideal. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit that rescues and places homeless, neglected or abused dogs from high-kill shelters in the south into loving, responsible committed and permanent homes. We feel our comprehensive adoption process which includes not only taking the time to match the dog to the prospective new owner but helping to educate that owner in responsible dog care, allows us to find the best homes for our little buddies and the best companions for you! Each week we use USDA certified transports to bring dogs from high-kill shelters in the south to our fosters where they all receive the appropriate medical care and are placed in nurturing loving homes while they await placement in their forever homes. Interested in one of our dogs? Great! Now that you've seen them here, you'll need to go to our website where you'll find our list of adoptable dogs (updated every week). Then, it's just a simple process of finding a dog you're interested in and filling out an application on our site. Once we receive your application, whoever is fostering that particular dog will contact you and do a short over the phone interview to complete your application process. If everything works out, they will set an appointment with you so come out and "visit" with the dog you're interested in (we want to make sure that not only are you a good fit for the dog but that the dog will fit with you). If everything works out, you'll be able to take rover (or spot, or jax) home with you that very day. A couple of things you should know: We can't hold dogs over the phone or via email. Adoption fees vary based on breed. All of our dogs have been vet checked and dewormed (if possible due to age, additional treatment may be needed).
