Nikolaus, lovingly called Klaus, is a 10 year old American Eskimo and Pomeranian mix with the energy and spirit of a much younger dog. He is affectionate, gentle, and happiest curled up in your lap or beside you on the couch. He enjoys walks, short play sessions, and being part of everyday home life, but he is also content to relax quietly near his person. Klaus loves baths and grooming and goes to the groomer at least once a month. He eats a wet food diet and is used to being an indoor dog only. He is good with other pets, including cats, and is not aggressive. Klaus can be sensitive about being picked up and does best with someone patient who will move slowly, build trust, and respect his comfort level. Once he feels safe, he bonds very deeply. Due to a housing change, his owner is looking for a loving permanent home or a one year foster in the Wilmington, Delaware area. A calm home where someone is around often would be ideal. I’ve had Zazu since he was 2 months old, living with my ex and his dog. Zazu was used to a family and someone else always being around. The past year and a half it has been just the 2 of us and my living arrangements have not been stable. My job is also not stable and I am at the point where I need to find Zazu a stable living environment. He enjoys someone else always around or another animal. He enjoys playing with his toys but mostly enjoys walks and playing fetch outside. I am not able to give him the attention and time he deserves at this time and would like to find him a family that is capable of giving him the attention, time, and resources that he deserves. Zazu is extremely loving and affectionate, he loves getting pets and treats, he is house trained and follows commands.

ABOUT LUNA Meet princess Luna, a 4-year-old Husky mix seeking a patient, experienced owner who understands her unique personality. Luna arrived at HAP last March, scared and unsure of the world around her. While we don’t know her full history, it’s clear she has endured some hardships. It took her a while to trust us, so she may need patience at your first meeting, but once she feels safe, her true self shines through! Luna is a sweet, playful, and wonderfully goofy girl with a classic Husky sassiness. She’s vocal about her feelings, loves playing with toys of all kinds, and enjoys chasing tennis balls. She thrives spending time outside sniffing, running, and playing. Once inside, she loves to curl up on her fluffy blankets and chew on her bones. Luna has a “less is more” quality, she’ll leave you wanting more, and she appreciates a slower, respectful approach when first meeting new people. While Luna has been okay passing other dogs with redirection, she hasn’t made a canine friend yet and might prefer a home where she’s the pampered princess. Once she’s comfortable, she seeks and accepts affection, but she’ll make her boundaries clear if she needs space, and she escalates if her space isn’t respected. For this reason, Luna would do best with older, respectful family members who understand her communication style. With patience, love, and understanding, Luna will become a loyal, loving companion who brings joy, laughter, and a little Husky mischief into your home! **If interested in adopting Luna, please reach out to our trainer, Ben Touchton, at btouchton@hapde.org Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.
