Story
Meet Sweetie Pie8-year-old spayed female Husky looking for a very special home to spend her golden years in. Sweetie Pie came to the shelter as an owner surrender after her beloved owner sadly passed away. Another family member took her in temporarily, but due to having to move, they were no longer able to care for her. With her entire world changing so suddenly, Sweetie Pie has been understandably overwhelmed and frightened.During the stressful process of being removed from her home, Sweetie Pie was involved in a Level 2 fear-based bite (a bite that leaves minor redness, bruising, or slight scrapes). This incident occurred while she was scared, confused, and unsure of what was happening around her. Since arriving at the shelter, Sweetie Pie has shown us that beneath her timid exterior is a gentle soul who simply needs patience, understanding, and time to feel safe again.Sweetie Pie is not the type of dog who will trust instantly. She takes time to build confidence with new people, but once she does, her affectionate personality shines through. She loves to lay beside her person, enjoys quiet companionship, and truly believes she is a lap dog at heart. Watching her slowly come out of her shell is incredibly rewarding. As expected with her breed, Sweetie Pie is considered a flight risk and will need a home committed to safety and continued leash training. Prior to coming to the shelter, she had never been walked on a leash, but staff have already begun working with her and she is making progress. A securely fenced yard would be ideal for her comfort and safety, though it is not required with proper management and continued training.Sweetie Pie is searching for a calm, quiet, patient home that will allow her to adjust at her own pace. She would do best with adopters who understand shy or fearful dogs and are willing to give her the time she deserves to decompress and learn to trust again. After everything she has been through, Sweetie Pie deserves stability, compassion, and a family willing to see the loving dog behind the fear. If you have the patience to let her blossom, Sweetie Pie will reward you with a bond that is truly special.57 lbsIf you are interested in meeting Sweetie Pie, please visit the shelter during open adoption hours:Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday: 10 AM–12:30 PM & 2 PM–4 PMThursday: 10 AM–12:30 PM & 2 PM–6:30 PMSaturday: 9 AM–1 PMIf you do not own your home, please
