Story
Stop, look, listen! Ransom is adorable! But he is only available to someone who has extensive experience with dogs who have Ransom's behavior issues. Yes, he's as soft as a stuffed toy and just as cute and is a very smart, affectionate little guy. But he's quirky. Originally aged at 12 years old by the shelter where he was turned in as a stray, we agree with our vet team that he’s more likely about 8 years old. Ransom loves to keep watch over the neighborhood as much as he loves being cuddled. He’ll use his paw to pull your hand to his face to stroke him. We initially thought he needed to be an only pet but since he was neutered, he is doing much better. We have taken things very slowly with him and the other dogs here. When he first met the other dogs, he was territorial and showed resource guarding towards humans. We have worked with him and he has made great progress. He learns quickly and really wants to please. He knows sit, wait, watch, and come, walks nicely on the leash and is perfectly crate and house trained. Ransom needs a very special adopter. Please read our Senior Moments post to learn about him: https://www.flfosenioranimals.org/post/ransom-notes FLFO requires a home visit therefore adopters must be within 40 miles of Baldwin MD. Thank you for understanding.

Story
Rocky was adopted out several years ago and recently returned to the shelter due to a divorce. He is an active, playful guy and is around 6 years old. Rocky does have a high prey drive so a home without cats or small animals would be best. Rocky loves going out to the play yard to play and enjoys getting all the attention that he can! He did live with another dog and did well. He enjoys getting brushed! Rocky was around older children in his previous home. Rocky would love to find his loving forever home soon! He is neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, and microchipped. Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter5051 Letterkenny Road WestChambersburg, PA 17201Kennel License#2090

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs.  Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families.  We have many sponsorship dogs.  Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :)When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :)  So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue.  Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding.  Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :)Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us!Well I was 'purchased' by a senior citizen.  He was 78 and I was a puppy :(  I had to be around really big dogs.  By the time I was 2 I had learned that I needed to protect myself.  My owner had realized he was to old to handle a puppy.  To say it was a mess was an understatement :(   My owners daughter started calling all around looking for help to place me.  She told the people I was food aggressive, dog aggressive and only liked males so of course most rescues the SPCA included didn't want anything to do with me :(Lucky for me Lynn decided she wanted to meet me.  She took my leash and we went for a walk.  I just knew by the way she walked with me that she was in charge and I didn't have to be.  She picked me up and carried me for a little while and I decided I liked it!She brought this big dog Millie into the play yard.  Oh no I was scared but Lynn seemed to think it would be alright so I decided to see what would happen.  Millie was very nice and she gave me my space hmmmm I think I might be OK with dogs.  The next day I came for a visit at the ranch for the day.  I met ALL the dogs and it was OK no one wanted to hurt me!!  Now I run around the ranch and I am part of the pack and guess what I like EVERYONE!  I'm even OK with female humans!!!  Life is GREAT!!  PLEASE if you are a senior be smart and don't get a young dog get a dog that is more your age and activity level and one that won't be left behind to start over when you are gone.  Its not fair.  I know other people can take the dog but boy would you like to have your world turned upside down and start all over again just because someone was selfish enough to not think ahead???MUST HAVE FENCED YARD AND ANOTHER DOG Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please fill out an adoption application: Adoption application (Dog) Adoption Application (Cat)   Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. We do not adopt dogs to renters. Some dogs will have fence requirements while others may not.   A pet is a lifetime commitment. The dogs and cats in our system find themselves there, for the most part, because their humans did not have the same loyalty to them as they did to their owners. We do not take the adoption process lightly, and will do everything in our power to make sure the animal is placed correctly the first time around for your sake and theirs. Thank you for choosing to adopt not shop!May 2, 2024, 12:27 pm

Story
Merlin, a recent rescue, is a very happy, very sweet, blind, but active, blue merle, Pomeranian puppy born on 6/8/24. He is such a social little boy. He’s loves being right beside you touching you when he’s down on the ground, staying right at your feet, but he’s even happier when you are holding him in your arms. On 4/25/24 he was neutered, brought up to date on vaccinations, tested negative for heartworms, and is being kept on heartworm and flea and tick prevention to maintain his good health. He has a very thick, luscious coat and he will be groomed when his neuter incision heals. Merlin is being fostered in Arkansas. His adoption donation is $965 which includes the $165 transport fee that we will pay to our transport company, HEARTS LLC. If you have lots of love and attention to lavish on this special little boy and would like to provide him with a safe and loving home, please complete the first step in the adoption process by filling out an online adoption application. You can find a copy of that application here. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner. An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. Please remember we are all volunteers.

Story
PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.5/5/24 'Some guys have all the luck.' But not this guy. We didn't have a bit of luck finding Rod Stewart's owner after he came to us as a stray. But on the other hand, he was found by a good Samaritan and a wonderful foster stepped up to take him until adopted, so maybe he's pretty lucky after all! Rod Stewart is a young pomeranian, probably about 5 months old. He is wonderful with other dogs, cats, and kids. He loves to play and loves to snuggle in a lap. He's a tiny guy. He looks a lot bigger than he is, because of all the hair. He's probably about 8-9lbs currently and won't get much bigger. He's not totally house trained but he's working on it! He will be neutered soon and then can go to his new home. Located in Arkansas, but transport is available. Adopter must be able to pick up or arrange for someone to pick up for them at one of the following times/locations. This includes microchip, spay/neuter,  up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, dewormings, flea/tick treatment, and heartworm test (if over 6 months old) as well as heartworm treatment if they test positive. There is a transport fee of $150 per dog, depending on the transporter. We use Pack Leaders Rescue Dog Transport most often, but also use Hearts Transport as well on occasion.
