CARSON is an 8 year old Portuguese Water Dog looking for a quiet household with active dog parents. He has some behavioral issues, so we are looking for an adult only home with one or two adults (no grandparents or in-laws) and an outdoors oriented family, who loves to hike, camp, etc. Carson is energetics and a lover of life and people 99% of the time. He is a resource guarder and has bitten several times over his life when somebody has reached in to pick up something that he was guarding. Most recently when the mother-in-law picked up a toy that he dropped when he was in an over excited state. Carson is very smart and very trainable, and these situations are very avoidable. Carson gets along well with cats and can be paired with a Doggy friend when introduced properly. He walks well on a leash with his head harness and has learned not to be reactive on his walks. He loves to play! Great in the car! A perfect travel, buddy! Has always been good for the groomer. And did I mention he loves to hike! This friend has just arrived to us on transport from a high-intake shelter partner! When our friends are new to us, we are often unsure of their full background. Our staff will spend some time getting to know them and update their bio with more information as we learn. They are pending interactions with animals until they have been cleared by our vet. Please note that we often are unsure of house, crate, car, and leash training status upon arrival. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.
