Hello, my name is Shadow. I'm a 3-year-old male chihuahua. I am current on my vaccines, heartworm tested, neutered, and microchipped. I am a foster-to-adopt candidate. 3 words that describe me: Shy, Gentle, CuriousWords from Shadow's foster family: Shadow is settling in really well and is becoming more comfortable and playful. He loves snuggles, belly rubs, toys, and has even become a little sock thief! He does well with strangers, loud traffic near our home, walks, and being kenneled, and his potty training has been going great with very few accidents. He is starting to play with our dog Lucy, although she has much more energy than he does. He still needs some work on basic manners and obedience, including sitting, staying and understanding the leash means "walks". Activity level/Energy Level: (1-10): 4/10Housetraining Status: With patience and consistency, I am doing well in my foster home with minimal accidents! I should do well in a home: I am required to go to a home with children 5 years and older to ensure my boundaries are respected. I should do fine with other dogs given proper introductions and time to adjust. My friends at CRHS are unsure how I'd do with cats. Story
Hello, my name is Gizmo. I'm a 5-year-old male chihuahua. I am current on my vaccines, heartworm tested, neutered, and microchipped. I am a foster-to-adopt candidate. 3 words that describe me: Shy, Curious, Gentle Things staff and volunteers have to say about me: I was surrendered from a home with over 30 other chihuahuas. Due to these rough begininnings, I am still learning what it means to be a dog! The world is a big new scary place, but despite being scared I've been slowly but surely making some progress. I would even more progress outside of the shelter environment! I will need an owner who is understanding and willing to take things slow and go at my pace. Activity level/Energy Level: (1-10): 3/10 Housetraining Status: I am still learning, a consistent schedule and lots of praise will help! I should do well in a home: I am required to go to a home with kids 12 years and older to ensure my boundaries are respected. I am required to meet any and all dogs in my potential home. My friends at CRHS are unsure how I'd do with cats. My favorite activities are: Relaxing in a quiet and calm environment Things I need work on are: Confidence building, basic commands, housetraining, and walking on leash. From Gizmo's Foster home: Gizmo is SO ready for a family of his own! While this boy was very fearful in the shelter, he is a pretty normal dog inside the home. He’s extremely snuggly, goofy, playful and overall just an easy guy to care for! He’s a true lap dog who can snuggle for many hours. He demands pets, belly rubs and butt scratches by pawing at you or rubbing on you. He has met multiple visiting adults and immediately wanted attention and snuggles from them which blew my mind! His potty training is going very well! He has only had one accident inside. I do utilize a belly band for times when we’re home but can’t keep a constant eye on him. He goes potty right away when taken outside. He is crate trained both at night and when we leave during the day. He sleeps quietly through the night in a crate next to our bed. He has a day time crate in the main living area and sometimes he even chooses to lay in it. He always keeps his kennel clean. He’s great with our dogs. He was a bit scared of them at first meeting and communicated that appropriately by growling. It didn’t take long for him to really enjoy their company. He chooses to snuggle with them often and today played with our pit for the first time! I think he would prefer to live with at least one other dog. I would not recommend that he live with cats unless they are extremely dog savvy and intros are taken slowly. He can’t seem to resist chasing them. My extremely tolerant sphynx and him have mostly come to an understanding and they can chill in the same space but Gizmo still chases him if he’s on the move. He’s been rightfully beaten up several times by my hairy cat for chasing him. Gizmo now uses a LITTLE bit of caution around him but still struggles with the urge to chase him. We are utilizing gates to give the cats areas of peace when they choose 😅 He is still a sensitive boy that requires extra love and understanding. He’s very head shy when you reach for him even though he wants so badly to be touched, he ducks his head most times. His neck and ears are especially sensitive and he will cry if you touch them too much. He does have several old ear wounds which could be playing a part in his sensitivity. He finds leashes to be very scary and panics with any bit of pressure. I don’t know that we will be able to make any progress with that in the short amount of time that we have him. I tried a harness as well and he disliked that even more. A fenced in yard makes life very easy. He loves spending time in the yard doing zoomies, sun bathing, rolling around, sniffing or just hanging out with his people and dog buddies. His kid restriction is appropriate. He met my visiting niece and nephew and was fine with them if they were relaxed but if they get rambunctious or run he will chase and bark at them. Fortunately he is not a nippy chihuahua at all. He is always handleable even if in a fearful state. He also got a bath and nail trim and behaved himself very well!
