Story
Patrick Poodle Mix Male Grey/Black 3 years old 21 lbs Meet Patrick: This sweet boy loves being close to his people, whether he's soaking up belly rubs or cuddling beside you on the couch. Patrick walks nicely on a leash and enjoys getting out and about, though he's more of a leisurely stroller than a long-distance hiking partner. He's only mildly interested in toys but is a big fan of a good bully stick to chew. He would be an excellent work-from-home companion who gladly curls up on your feet or under your desk. Patrick is generally a quiet dog and rarely barks, but he has made it clear that he would prefer to be the only dog in the home. He has struggled with sharing attention with another dog in his foster home and would thrive as the center of someone's world. Patrick knows a few basic commands; he'll even sit up on his hind legs while eagerly waiting for dinner, and would benefit from continued training to help channel his enthusiasm. Patrick is a loving, loyal companion who is happiest when spending time with his people. If you're looking for a charming little dog who wants to be your one and only, Patrick may be the perfect match. Please Note: **No children under 10!** If you are interested in adopting PATRICK, please visit our website at www.somersetcottagepoodlerescue.org to learn about our adoption process and download the adoption application, or click ADOPT ME! below. PATRICK's adoption donation is $795

Story
-ESTIMATE WEIGHT FULL GROWN: 25 lbs -ESTIMATED AGE: 3 years old -KNOWN WITH DOGS: Ash is doing really well with the other dogs in his foster home! We really feels comfortable with them even though they are quite larger than him. He looks to them for cues on how to behave, where to go, and when it is safe to relax. For that reason his ideal home would include at least one friendly, confident dog who can continue to show him that the world is not as frightening as he once believed -KNOWN WITH CATS: Ash is also living with cats in his foster home. He has proven himself to be great with cats, coexisting peacefully and showing no prey drive or inappropriate interest -KNOWN WITH KIDS: Ash is living with a younger child in the home. They are getting along with proper coaching from the parents and overall has the potential to be a Velcro dog. He is not there yet with everyone, and new people will still be viewed with caution, but he has proven that with patience and consistency he can and will bond deeply. -KNOWN CUES: -KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING: Since the start Ash has shown A++ skills with his house training and no accidents in the home. -KNOWN LIKES: He seems to appreciate a calm, predictable routine and a quiet environment where he can decompress. He is not food motivated in the way some dogs are, and he will not perform tricks for treats, but he eats his meals reliably and maintains a healthy appetite. -KNOWN DISLIKES: He does not know what a leash is at this point and has not been leash trained, so walks are not part of his current routine. A securely fenced yard is therefore essential, because his flight instinct is still strong when he is startled and he would bolt if given the chance in an unfenced area. Notes from the foster: Ash is a small to medium adult dog who started out very scared of people. He came to his foster home labeled a flight risk and spent his first night in a travel crate for safety. He was happy to meet the resident dogs right away but wanted nothing to do with humans at first. He had to be carried to the yard, avoids stairs, and would bolt if a fence wasn’t secure. Even on day one, though, he was fully potty trained, slept quietly through the night, and ate all his meals without accidents in the house. In just three days, Ash has made huge progress. He no longer needs the crate and now sleeps on a dog bed next to his foster dog siblings. The couch has become his safe spot, but he’s started exploring, wagging his tail when he sees his people, and even seeking out his foster mom for affection. He’s been left home alone and was perfectly well-behaved. He’s great with both cats and dogs, and has tried to play with his dog friends. He still doesn’t know what a leash is and isn’t food motivated, but he’s learning that people can be kind. Ash will do best in a calm home with a secure fenced yard, a patient adopter, and at least one confident dog to help show him the ropes. He needs someone who will let him warm up at his own pace — he’s not the type to run up to strangers, but he bonds deeply once he trusts you. His teeth will need dental care soon, so that’s something to plan for. If you’re willing to give him time, you’ll get to watch a fearful dog turn into a loyal, Velcro companion who searches you out for love. Interested in being Ash’s safe landing? He’s ready for a family who understands that trust is earned — and worth it. Story
Meet Riggs! Riggs’ story began when a kind Good Samaritan found him at their workplace. Despite their best efforts to locate his owner, no one came forward, and a visit to the vet confirmed that Riggs was not microchipped. Thankfully, they reached out to one of our wonderful fosters to see if AFH could help—and that foster graciously opened their home and gave Riggs a safe place to land. Now, Riggs is ready for the next chapter of his story: finding a loving family of his very own! He’s getting the care, comfort, and attention he deserves while he waits for his forever home. If you think Riggs could be the missing piece in your family, we’d love for you to consider giving this sweet boy the forever home he’s been waiting for. ❤️Accuracy is not guaranteed; however, information provided is accurate to the best of our knowledge.  For more information on the pet, please send an email to info@aforeverhome.org September 2, 2026, 10:14 pm
