This Rat Terrier/Chihuahua Mix came to DASH with several other small dogs when their owner had to go into a nursing home. He is currently in our DASH Prison Program where is he learning his basic commands and working on crate training. He is a very social boy who loves all dogs and humans. He enjoys snuggling in your lap to relax and sleeping in bed with you. He loves his toys and going outside to play and take walks. He can sometimes be a little sensitive to loud noises, as most small dogs are. This boy is as sweet as they come and is ready to find his forever family or person. He has not been kid or cat tested, but would not recommend very young children just due to his size. This sweet and very smart little guy came to DASH with several other small dogs when his owner had to go into a nursing home and could not take him with them. He is currently in our DASH Prison Program where he is working on his basic commands, which his trainer says he is picking up very quickly. He is also working on his socialization skills, he likes other dogs, but doesn't really care to play with them. He does not like to be crated, he wants to be with his people, so that is a work in progress, but he does love his walks and to cuddle whenever the opportunity presents itself. He is also very kid friendly, but has not been cat tested. He is very treat motivated and loves a good piece of ice over an actual treat. This boy is ready to find his forever home with a family or person who will continue with his training so he can continue to be the best boy for the rest of his life. I get along great with other small dogs and older kids, and I’m always ready for a game of keep-away with my favorite red Kong. I walk nicely on a leash, I’m house trained, and I’m crate trained — I really try my best to make life easy for my people. I can be a bit anxious sometimes, especially around large dogs (I bark at them to let them know I’m unsure!) and fast-moving little kids who might grab at my face. When things feel too sudden or overwhelming, I get nervous and might growl to tell you I need space. But with gentle people who take their time with me, I’m truly the sweetest boy — I love nothing more than curling up beside you and soaking in the calm. I haven’t met cats yet, but I might be okay with them if introduced slowly. I’m a good listener and I already know “come,” “sit,” and “stay.” And if you offer me a meaty treat?
