Story
Courage came into rescue in January as part of a hoarding case. Just 9 months old, he was terrified, unsocialized, and overwhelmed by change. He had never known that people could be kind. For five months, his foster family has patiently helped him gain confidence, and while he's made meaningful progress, Courage still needs an adopter with deep patience and realistic expectations. Now 1 year-old and 7 lbs., Courage has learned to trust his foster family and a few familiar people. However, he does not permit being picked up, isn't a fan of leash walking, and prefers to be pet by specific trusted humans. He thrives on routine—any disruption causes anxiety. With a predictable environment, he's a funny and happy little guy.   Courage is house trained as long as he's let out regularly. He's clean in his crate, which serves as his safe space, and he follows the command to go in. He also eats his meals there. The rewards for taking on a dog like Courage are huge.   Courage's foster family has continued to work with him but he still does not care for being leashed or picked up. He may never be a cuddly dog, but when he wants you to pay attention to him he is wiggly and funny. One of his favorite past times is stretching out on the sidewalk to bake in the sun. When you finally earn his trust, it will fill your heart with joy. He enjoys other dogs he knows and would likely do well with a cat. Due to his semi-feral tendencies and insecurities, Courage needs a quiet home without kids or lots of visitors. His adopter must be prepared for setbacks, including hiding or fearful behavior. But his foster mom is fully committed to supporting whoever takes the leap for this special little guy.   Here are several videos to see some of his progression: https://youtube.com/shorts/lYjg_gPwnGo?si=Qa5nn3rhZiEA5ljD   Courage early on https://youtube.com/shorts/fcVsmsDK7AY?si=klxLow8QdJAVg79V   Slow improvements https://youtube.com/shorts/iyLq5oXPJUE?si=WURr0MRD0FGgSsr4   Before we could pet him https://www.facebook.com/share/v/15DSv2bCEq/   Courage coming for attention https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1EuD4Uhgmk/  The first time we could pet him and give him butt scritches https://youtube.com/shorts/wJVHPFvKrvA?si=VAV3aKgro8qLpFTb  Sometimes you can pet him, sometimes you can't   More photos of Courage are available in this album:  https://imageevent.com/newrattitude/courage    If you are interested in adopting this dog, PLEASE READ THE DETAILED ADOPTION PROCESS information on our website at www. Story
Alma is an energetic 2-year-old, 21 lb. female rat terrier mix with a sweet temperament and great personality. Alma enjoys playing with toys and running with her foster brothers and sisters in the back yard of her foster home. Alma can be vocal during playtime letting her brothers and sisters know who is in charge…or so she thinks! Alma does well with the other dogs, cats, and children in her foster home so a furry or human siblings are welcome! Alma is shy and hesitant with people she does not know. But give her time and treats and she will become your loyal best friend. Alma is crate-trained and will sleep in her crate all night as long as she is welcomed in with a treat. Alma prefers to sleep on the bed with her humans so she can give goodnight kisses and curl up under the covers. Alma is reliably house-trained and she does well on a leash but she prefers to run and play in a fenced in yard (though it will need to be 6 feet because she can jump extremely high!). This perfect young lady is waiting for your application to be her forever family!  If you are interested in adopting this dog, PLEASE READ THE DETAILED ADOPTION PROCESS information on our website at www. Story
Tanner is a happy-go-lucky 1.5 year-old boy. He is a sturdy 22 lbs. of muscle. Tanner came to New Rattitude after being purchased from a breeder with his father. The two dogs did not get along and the ensuing conflict was just too stressful for everyone in the home. We greatly appreciate the family reaching out to us to help Tanner find his own home. Tanner is fostering at a boarding and training facility in central Virginia.  While there his fosters have learned that Tanner is good with other dogs that are his size or larger. Smaller dogs and other pets, however, are not a good fit. Like a good rat terrier, Tanner has a high prey drive and quickly grabs, shakes, and dispatches small furry things -- so cats would likely be a target too. He will happily be kept busy chasing the fuzzy lure on a pole, as he loves to do in his foster home. Tanner is very trainable and wants to learn! He is practicing controlling his excitement when presented with new dogs or situations. Tanner quickly alters his behavior when given clear instructions and boundaries. It is important that his new family continue to guide him to his best behavior. Tanner is clean in his crate overnight and enjoys going into it to chew on a bone. Tanner will resource guard food and coveted toys. Maintaining good crate behavior is essential to keeping him safe and out of trouble. He eats in his crate without any issues. Tanner has learned to sit and wait for his food in his crate. He also knows to sit and wait for treats if other dogs are present. He has shown himself to be fully house-trained and will adapt well to continued training in his forever home. Tanner is ready for his new life and adventures with his own family. Story
Ready for a dog who lives life to the fullest? Cranberry is a happy, loving, 24-lb., 2 year-old rat terrier mix. She is very active, and loves zooming around the yard, playing with her person or other dogs. But when she winds down, she always wants a good snuggle! Though she loves other dogs, she loves her person most of all. She can live in a forever home as a solo dog or she would be glad to have buddies. "Berry" has a great personality -- she comes when called and doesn’t wander far from her person’s side. She's completely house-trained, but is still working on her manners. She will need a fenced yard, plus walks to get the exercise and brainwork that she needs. This is a very happy young dog and sometimes her exuberance is a lot!  If your lifestyle matches Berry’s, check out her photo album at  https://imageevent.com/newrattitude/cranberry  If you are interested in adopting this dog, PLEASE READ THE DETAILED ADOPTION PROCESS information on our website at www. Story
Danica is a small little Toy Fox Terrier with a tender heart and a deep desire to feel safe again. This 2 year old girl who weighs just 9 pounds, was found running scared and lost through a rough neighborhood in rural Tennessee and when no one came forward to claim her, it became clear she was meant to start a new chapter—one where security and love are a given, not a question.    She is the definition of a Velcro baby. Danica wants to be right beside her person, soaking up every moment of closeness she can get. Your lap, your side, the spot right at your feet—that’s where she’s happiest. She does well with cats and seems comfortable around other dogs, but her true favorite will always be her human. Danica is incredibly sweet, a little clingy, and completely honest about her need for reassurance. After the trauma of being lost and the abandonment she’s experienced, who could blame her? She is fully potty trained and thrives when she can form a strong bond with someone who enjoys snuggles, quiet companionship, and being deeply loved. If you’re looking for a loyal little shadow who will choose you every single time, Danica is ready to give her whole heart to the person who gives her a safe place to land.  Please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com   Let us know where you live, city and state.  This girl is going to make someone so very happy and loved.       PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comJanuary 24, 2026, 5:58 pm
