Story
PLEASE READ ENTIRE POST AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION - WHISKEY BREED - Rat Terrier SIZE - About 12 pounds AGE - 3 years GENDER - Male MEDICAL CONCERNS - None known SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS - Whiskey is a darling little dog who came to us recently when his elderly owner went into assisted living. This little fellow had been with his owner since he was only six weeks old. He was not socialized with other animals, and he had little experience with other people. Hence, Whiskey displayed anxiety and protective behaviors when he arrived. In our kennel Whiskey has quickly grown in spirit. He has learned to love all our volunteers. We each introduce ourselves slowly and allow him to come to us which he does quickly, showing interest and affection. He is learning to enjoy the other small dogs carefully and is a big fan of toys and play. Whiskey's ideal adopter is an experienced pet owner, not a first timer. He is best suited to a quiet, structured and predictable home, and would benefit from learning to leash walk well and perhaps have basic obedience classes. Whiskey is a quiet, clean dog that appears housebroken. He would be happy beside his special person enjoying a quiet life. Fully grown at just 12 pounds, he is a perfect size for most homes! Whiskey is in good health, neutered, microchipped, and fully vaccinated. We are seeking a home with an adopter able to work from home or be at home the majority of the day to spend time with him. A home without larger pets and without children's is a must, as is a fenced, secure yard. Whiskey is a purebred dog who comes with his AKC paperwork. Our adoption process starts with your email to carerescue@aol.com or Adopt a Pet inquiry. After we receive it, we will email you our prescreening questionnaire. Your answers will help us determine that your home and lifestyle matches the needs of Whiskey and our adoption criteria. Once determined, we will set up a private meeting with you and your family to meet Whiskey at a park near our private kennel just east of Richmond. After meeting him and determining that he matches your preferences for a pet, we will accept your application. A home visit by one of our trained volunteers is required for all adoptions, and we will speak with your vet to ensure that you are a responsible pet owner. More information on our website at www.carerva.com.

Story
Courage came into rescue in January as part of a hoarding case. Just 9 months old, he was terrified, unsocialized, and overwhelmed by change. He had never known that people could be kind. For five months, his foster family has patiently helped him gain confidence, and while he's made meaningful progress, Courage still needs an adopter with deep patience and realistic expectations. Now 1 year-old and 7 lbs., Courage has learned to trust his foster family and a few familiar people. However, he does not permit being picked up, isn't a fan of leash walking, and prefers to be pet by specific trusted humans. He thrives on routine—any disruption causes anxiety. With a predictable environment, he's a funny and happy little guy. Courage is house trained as long as he's let out regularly. He's clean in his crate, which serves as his safe space, and he follows the command to go in. He also eats his meals there. The rewards for taking on a dog like Courage are huge.  He may never be a social butterfly  who enjoys errands or busy outings,  but when you finally earn his trust, it's a feeling that makes your heart burst.  When he feels safe, he's playful and funny, with a soft spot for butt scritches and chin rubs. He enjoys other dogs he knows and would likely do well with a cat. Due to his semi-feral tendencies and insecurities, Courage needs a quiet home without kids or lots of visitors. His adopter must be prepared for setbacks, including hiding or fearful behavior. But his foster mom is fully committed to supporting whoever takes the leap for this special little guy.   Here are several videos to see some of his progression: https://youtube.com/shorts/lYjg_gPwnGo?si=Qa5nn3rhZiEA5ljD   Courage early on https://youtube.com/shorts/fcVsmsDK7AY?si=klxLow8QdJAVg79V   Slow improvements https://youtube.com/shorts/iyLq5oXPJUE?si=WURr0MRD0FGgSsr4   Before we could pet him https://www.facebook.com/share/v/15DSv2bCEq/   Courage coming for attention https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1EuD4Uhgmk/  The first time we could pet him and give him butt scritches https://youtube.com/shorts/wJVHPFvKrvA?si=VAV3aKgro8qLpFTb  Sometimes you can pet him, sometimes you can't   More photos of Courage are available in this album:  https://imageevent.com/newrattitude/courage    If you are interested in adopting this dog, PLEASE READ THE DETAILED ADOPTION PROCESS information on our website at www. Story
Meet Elton, a one- to two-year-old rat terrier mix, who weighs 14 pounds, is house trained and full of opinions for someone who doesn’t pay rent. He’s a professional squeaky toy enthusiast, part-time napper, and full-time CEO of Whatever Room He’s In. Elton’s skills include the following: Olympic-level burrowing -- blankets, laundry piles, emotional boundaries — you name it.Power-walking like he is late to a meeting only he is attendingStaring at you like you’re the weird oneSilently judging your snack choices Elton is selective about his dog friends - he’s more of a “quality over quantity” kind of guy when it comes to dog friends, and that’s how he likes it. Slow introductions? Absolutely. Instant BFFs? Not so much. Elton would do best in a house with another low-key dog, who lets Elton be the boss. Elton is funny, goofy, and ready to bring joy—and maybe a touch of chaos—to a home willing to let him rule the roost. Might that home be yours?
