Story
Fitz is a 3-year-old Redbone Coonhound/German Shepherd mix who is a loving, affectionate dog with people. He has never bitten a person or another dog. His biggest challenge is leash reactivity. When Fitz is on a leash or otherwise restrained, he barks, lunges, and can appear very aggressive toward other dogs. Because he’s a large dog, his behavior can look much more intimidating than it is. However, when he is off leash in an appropriate environment, he does well and does not display the same reactive behavior. His reactivity seems to stem from the frustration of being restrained rather than a desire to harm other dogs. I want to be completely transparent because I want to find the right placement for him. He is not a dangerous dog, but he does need an experienced handler who understands leash reactivity and is willing to continue working with him. I
