Story
THIS DOG IS CURRENTLY IN A FOSTER HOME WITHIN A REASONABLE DISTANCE OF OUR KENNEL IN WOBURN, MA. ONCE A POTENTIAL ADOPTER IS MATCHED WITH A DOG AND GOES THROUGH OUR REFERENCE AND INTERVIEW PROCESS WITH AN ADOPTION COORDINATOR THIS DOG WOULD BE AVAILABLE FOR YOU TO MEET BEFORE ADOPTION. IT IS OUR GOAL TO GET ALL LOCAL DOGS TO THEIR FOREVER FAMILIES WITHIN 7 DAYS ONCE MATCHED. *Please read Penny Ruby Rose's entire profile, which includes a link to the adoption application. Thank you!** Meet Penny Ruby Rose, a 7 or 8-year-old Redbone Coonhound mix, weighing 80 pounds (as of 2/4/26). This gorgeous chestnut girl was sadly given up by her owners because they sadly don't have time to care for her and don't want to leave her at home for 12+ hours a day. While Penny loves and appreciates their efforts, she's an old girl who's looking to enjoy her days with an easygoing homebody with lots of treats! Penny is calm and quiet around the house. She's a Southern lady with exquisite manners. When it comes to toys, Penny is not impressed. This mellow girl prefers to go on walks in the great outdoors to sniff around like a detective! If you've got a large, fenced-in area and have time to go on multiple walks a day, even better! Penny's ideal owner is someone who's also enjoying their retirement years so you can both ease on through the day together. She plays well other dogs and actually tends to prefer smaller ones over the larger ones. She'll even help babysit your kids as she loves them and will give them kisses. What a doll! Penny has experience with crates and rides great in a car if you ever need a companion to go grocery shopping. She might not be able to fit in the shopping cart though. Penny's not a fan of loud noises like thunderstorms or fireworks and will get nervous, so she hopes her future owner will have some patience with her which is fair, because those noises are scary! We'd be afraid too! While she's housebroken, Penny sometimes struggles with accidents and asks that her future family has patience to help her adjust to a new environment. She hasn't had obedience training, but knows "sit, leave it, and down" which, for this chill girl, is probably all you need. Because of her rough beginnings being tied up (prior to being adopted), Penny's teeth are worn down. She also takes a monthly heartworm preventative medication. This sweet and chill girl is looking for an equally sweet and chill owner! If you've got loads of time on your hands and want a loving companion (or a companion for your lonely grandparent), Penny is the girl! Adopt her today! All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be. To adopt or learn more about Penny Ruby Rose, you must fill out an adoption application. To find the application, copy and paste this URL into your browser: WWW.GDRNE.COM/ADOPTION-APPLICATION [Adoption Fee: $425] ** PLEASE READ: If a dog is listed, then s/he is currently available for adoption. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted. Story
MEET DARLA!Hound enthusiasts, rejoice! Darla is the sweetest little hound dog, only 32lbs and full grown, with big ears and bigger heart. She loves snugs, blankets, and time with her loved ones. She is quite smart and engaged when it comes time for some training and loves her pupperoni treats! Darla is very chill and would do great in a family household with lots of love and attention. She adores other dogs and could do well in a home with a compatible canine friend as well. She also comes with a custom knit sweater, made by her very talented and loving foster!Upon examination, Darla was found to have a mammary mass that was removed by our vet team at the time of spay. Mammary masses are common in unspayed adult female dogs. This patient`s mammary tumor was removed and submitted for biopsy, which came back as a malignant (cancerous) tumor. Chest x-rays were completed, which did not show any signs of metastatic disease at this time. Since this patient was spayed later in life, it is possible the additional mammary tumors may appear, the tumor may reoccur locally or that metastatic disease may become apparent as this patient ages.My friends describe me as: Affectionate, Friendly, ResilientDarla is currently up to date on all vaccinations, has been spayed/neutered, microchipped and seen by our vet team. For more information on Darla or any other animal currently residing at the Animal Rescue League of Boston, please call us at 617-426-9170. We welcome adopters from NH, RI, CT, and NY. However, we will be unable to facilitate same day adoptions due to state regulated paperwork requirements.

Story
Slinky is one of 11 hound mixes that rescuers in rural SW Oklahoma saved from a property where they barely had any shelter and fed inconsistently. Several rescues stepped in to take the dogs. I took 3. They are about 11 months old. And despite their horrible start in life all 3 of them have wonderful personalities and are super sweet. They are very big, calm and great with other dogs and cats. Shy at first but always friendly. They do bark at the fence if another dog is on the other side but that's pretty common with a lot of dogs. If you want a chill dog that is big, Slinky is your match. He is currently still in Oklahoma where he was rescued but he can only be adopted out of state where people treat animals well. He has to be prepaid and picked up directly from transport at one of our transport drop off locations below. If things don't work out for some reason, which rarely ever happens, we will either find a local foster to take him in or he will go back to Oklahoma on our next transport until a new home is found. Note: No dogs are advertised as potty-trained because most dogs need at least some re-training in a new environment and after being in a shelter/rescue environment/strays. www.facebook.com/desideratarescue (copy and paste into a new browser window) Transport locations: - Washington State (Kennewick, Spokane, Tacoma, Lynnwood/Edmonds, Bellingham) - Oregon (Portland and Springfield) - Colorado (Ft Lupton) - Idaho (Heyburn and Boise/Meridian) - Utah (Ogden) - Wyoming (Evanston, Rock Springs, Laramie) - Montana (Missoula) - Illinois (Vandalia, Springfield, Chicago) - Indiana (Spiceland, Burn Harbor) - Michigan (St Joseph, Battle Creek, Ann Arbor) - Wisconsin (Madison, Wausau, Eau Claire, Appleton, Milwaukee) - Minnesota (Minneapolis/St Paul) - Iowa (Des Moines) - Ohio (Columbus and London) - Pennsylvania (Erie, Pittsburgh and Harrisburg) - New York (Buffalo and Albany) - Connecticut (Enfield) - New Jersey (Bedminster) - Vermont (Brattleboro) Vetting: neutered, microchipped, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, dhpp vaccine x 3, lepto vaccine x 2, dewormed several times, on monthly flea and tick prevention, on monthly heartworm protection, heartworm tested (negative). Adoption fee: $450 (includes the $250 cost of transport from Oklahoma and all vetting listed above) Adoption application (copy and paste into a new browser window): https://form.jotform.com/82677586784176 FAQs (copy and paste into a new browser window): https://docs.google.com/document/d/12eb_SRtk1AzaBl87UltcLJ24MjH9UhQm_LE77iWZEQA/edit?tab=t.0 Desiderata Rescue is Oklahoma Licensed Rescue #95
