Flo's survived FIVE hurricanes, including the Great Hurricane of 1938. At some point, Mother Nature needed to accept that FLO WAS NOT CLOSING FOR BUSINESS. And the original Flo's? It started in a CHICKEN COOP moved to Island Park. Just a woman with a vision, some clams, and an absolutely unreasonable amount of determination. But here's why this name means so much to our Director. Flo was her grandfather's sister. He's still with us and will turn 99 in February! She was lucky enough to know her, and some of my favorite childhood memories are watching her make stuffies. She was an incredible woman whose legacy remains part of Rhode Island life today. So when we needed a name for one of our beautiful Redbone Coonhound mix puppies? OF COURSE WE CHOSE FLO. Ladies and gentlemen, this girl is the HEIRESS TO A SEAFOOD EMPIRE. And apparently, business is BOOMING. Six weeks ago, Flo weighed 24 pounds. Today? FORTY. ONE. POUNDS. At this rate, we're going to need an expansion permit from the Town of Portsmouth. THE BUSINESS IS GROWING. THE LEGS ARE GROWING. THE OVERHEAD IS BECOMING A FEDERAL CONCERN. We've requested a meeting with the board of directors. Flo has declined. She's negotiating the purchase of three neighboring properties and a commercial fishing vessel. Somewhere, we imagine the original Flo shaking her head and laughing because we've entrusted her good name to a puppy who apparently intends to become the largest landowner on Aquidneck Island. Persimmon has arrived, and the restaurant industry is already requesting emergency assistance. Some of you may remember Persimmon, the beloved fine dining restaurant that began in Bristol before moving to Providence's East Side. Chef Champe Speidel built its reputation on exceptional food, elegant presentation, and impeccable attention to detail. Naturally, we named a puppy after it. Unfortunately, nobody explained the concept of fine dining to the puppy. Persimmon is a 4 month old puppy that weighs around 39lbs. She has already requested a personal chef, larger dinner plates, and a walk in pantry. Her seven course tasting menu consists primarily of breakfast, second breakfast, lunch, dinner, and whatever her siblings haven't finished. We've attempted to explain portion control. She's asked to speak to management and then we gave up. And while her culinary ambitions are questionable, there's absolutely nothing questionable about how adorable this little girl is. She's still a young puppy who needs patience, training, socialization, and a family ready to help her grow into the wonderful dog she's meant to become. Ideally, her future household will also have a reasonable grocery budget. Although we should mention that Persimmon's definition of reasonable is currently under investigation. Her credentials are fabricated. Her cuteness is NOT. And for the love of Rhode Island, somebody please tell her that unlimited breadsticks are not a constitutional right. Perro Salado has a new general manager. He's devastatingly handsome, weighs 45 pounds, and cannot fit through the dining room without rearranging the furniture. NEWPORT: WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT THE MARGARITAS. If you've ever been to Perro Salado on Charles Street, you KNOW. The food is incredible and the pitchers of margaritas are delicious. It's like someone turned an entire house into a Mexican restaurant and said, "GOOD LUCK FINDING YOUR FRIENDS." Naturally, we named a puppy after it. THIS WAS OUR FIRST MISTAKE. Meet Perro Salado. He is 45lbs. FORTY FIVE POUNDS. He's the biggest of our Redbone Coonhound puppies. For perspective, his sister Flo weighs 41 pounds and is currently under federal investigation for attempting to acquire the entire New England seafood industry. And this man is bigger than Flo. We've placed him in charge of a restaurant famous for its intimate dining rooms. Unfortunately, he requires an open floor plan. Possibly a loading dock. He's also expressed interest in the margarita pitchers. Not the margaritas, obviously. He simply believes all drinking water should arrive in decorative vessels with tiny umbrellas. He's requested a company expense account. Denied. A reserved parking space. Denied. A king sized orthopedic dog bed. Under review. He has threatened to contact human resources. But underneath these outrageous demands is one gorgeous, growing puppy who deserves a wonderful future. Perro will need a family prepared for raising a large hound, including training, patience, exercise, adventures, and surrendering approximately 80% of their couch. Please don't be fooled by the word "puppy". This child is 45lbs. We've seen smaller dining room tables.
