Story
Meet David David is one of Moira’s babies and he’s a white-and-tan spotted hound mix with a whole lot of personality packed into a little puppy body. Just like his siblings, David has been raised with love and hands-on handling since they were 2 weeks old. He’s comfortable being held, touched, and even flipped onto his back—we’ve worked hard on gentle desensitizing so these pups grow into confident, easy adult dogs. They’ve been healthy and thriving, despite being rescued from a heartbreaking hoarding situation with 32 dogs. Their mom, Moira, was emaciated but an incredible mama, and we’ve made sure her puppies will only know kindness from here on out. Now—David is the one in the group who’s got opinions. He’s very opinionated and will absolutely tell you when he doesn’t like something or doesn’t agree with what’s happening. He’s curious, bold, and always on the move—a busy little explorer who lives for playtime. David is great with other dogs (big, small, young, old), good with cats, and good with kids. He loves to romp, wrestle, and chew like any growing pup… and when he finally wears himself out, he’ll occasionally decide you’ve earned a cuddle session before he passes out for a nap. David’s highlights:    •     White & tan spotted hound mix    •     Opinionated little chatterbox (he’ll let you know how he feels!)    •     Always moving, loves to play    •     Typical puppy who loves to chew    •     Good with kids    •     Great with dogs of all sizes/ages    •     Good with cats    •     Crate trained at night    •     Working on potty training (still a baby!)    •     Starting leash training + basics like “sit”    •     Up to date on shots and on prevention David is going to be someone’s absolute best friend—full of energy, full of character, and full of love (once he finally slows down long enough to share it).  Fill out an adoption application if you would like to have him share your home.  His $550 adoption fee will cover his medical care up to adoption to include vaccines, neuter, microchip, foster care and transportation from Louisiana to NY. ##2627867##

Story
Meet Twyla Twyla is one of Moira’s babies, a hound mix who looks just like her redbone hound mom—with the cutest little signature detail: one white front paw. Twyla is a lover through and through. She’ll play some (because puppy!), but if given the choice, she’d much rather be curled up in your lap, warm and cozy, watching the others play like it’s her favorite show. She is a true cuddler, and while all of these pups are sweet, Twyla has that extra softness—a more relaxed, gentle nature that just melts your heart. Like her siblings, Twyla has been with us since they were 2 weeks old, and we’ve made a big effort to ensure they’ve been lovingly handled and desensitized. They’re comfortable being held, touched, and even flipped onto their backs—happy and relaxed through it all. Despite their hard start—rescued from a hoarding situation with 32 dogs—they’ve been healthy and thriving. Their mom was emaciated but did an amazing job caring for them, and we’ve made sure these babies will never remember anything but kindness. Twyla is great with other dogs (big, small, young, old), good with cats, and good with kids. She does well crated at night, is working on potty training (still a baby!), and we’re starting leash training and basics like sit. Twyla’s highlights:    •     Hound mix — looks just like her redbone mom    •     One white front paw    •     Extra sweet, gentle, and relaxed    •     Lap-lover who prefers cuddles over chaos    •     Plays some, but cuddles more    •     Good with kids    •     Great with dogs of all sizes/ages    •     Good with cats    •     Crate trained at night    •     Working on potty training (still a baby!)    •     Starting leash training + basics like “sit”    •     Up to date on shots and on prevention If you’re looking for a puppy who’s equal parts soft, snuggly, and sweet, Twyla might just be your perfect match.  If you would like her to join your family fill out an adoption application.  Her $550 adoption fee covers medical care up to adoption to include vaccines, spay, microchip, foster care and transportation from Louisiana to NY. ##2627868##

Story
Meet Alexis Alexis is one of Moira’s babies — a hound mix who looks a whole lot like her redbone hound mama, with a beautiful twist: she has black fur down her back and tail that makes her markings stand out in the cutest way. Alexis is a curious little adventurer with a playful spirit. She loves to explore, she loves to play, and yes… she loves to chew (classic puppy behavior ). She’s just as sweet as the rest of the litter, but Alexis has one very clear passion in life: Tug. Of. War. Give her a rope toy and she is in heaven. She will happily tug, shake, pounce, and play until she flops down for a well-earned puppy nap. Like her siblings, Alexis has been with us since they were 2 weeks old and has been gently handled and desensitized from the start. These pups can be held, loved on, and even flipped onto their backs—they’re comfortable and happy with it, which helps set them up to be confident adult dogs. Despite being rescued from a heartbreaking hoarding situation with 32 dogs, Alexis and the litter have been healthy and thriving. Their mom, Moira, was emaciated but an incredible mama, and we’ve made sure these babies will only know kindness going forward. Story
Meet Stevie Stevie is Moira’s biggest baby girl — a tri-color hound mix with the sweetest “old soul” puppy vibe. She’s perfectly happy to sit back, watch the world go by, and quietly take it all in… and then crawl into your lap to snooze for hours. That said—Stevie is still very much a puppy! She loves to play, explore, and of course chew (because puppy life ). She’s a wonderful mix of laid-back cuddler and playful baby. Stevie has been handled and loved on since she was just 2 weeks old, and it shows. She’s comfortable being held, cuddled, and even flipped onto her back (and she’s totally content about it). We’ve worked hard on gentle desensitizing so she grows into a confident adult dog — and Stevie has been a champ through it all. She’s also a social little sweetheart:    •    Great with other dogs of all kinds — big, small, young, old    •    Good with cats    •    Good with kids Despite a heartbreaking start — rescued from a hoarding situation with 32 dogs — Stevie and her siblings have been healthy and thriving. Their mom, Moira, was emaciated but an incredible mama, and we made sure these babies would only know safety and kindness from here on out. Stevie’s highlights:    •     Easy-going, curious, and affectionate    •     Great with kids    •     Great with dogs (big/small/young/old)    •     Good with cats    •     Professional lap napper    •     Playful puppy who loves to chew    •     Does great for baths    •     Nail trims are easy    •     Crate trained at night    •     Working on potty training (still a baby!)    •     Starting leash training + learning basics like “sit”    •     Up to date on shots and on prevention Stevie is going to make someone an amazing best friend — gentle, sweet, and steady… with just the right amount of puppy sparkle.  Please fill out an adoption if you would like to add her to your family.  Her $500 adoption fee covers medical care up to adoption to include Vaccines, spay, microchip, foster care and transportation from Louisiana to NY.   ##2627851##

Story
Meet Moira — a stunning Redbone Hound 4 y/o female with a heart as big as her soulful eyes. Moira came to us from a heartbreaking hoarding situation, dangerously thin and severely malnourished… and somehow, even in that condition, she was still pouring every ounce of herself into being the most devoted mama to her five 2-week-old puppies. She didn’t just survive — she loved through it. And that tells you everything you need to know about who she is. Now that she’s safe, Moira is showing the world what she always was: the sweetest, most grateful soul. She’s incredibly loyal, listens like a dream, and truly just wants to be near her people. She can be a little clingy at times, but honestly? It feels like she’s simply making up for all the love she went without for far too long. Spayed Up to date on vaccines On flea/tick & heartworm prevention Potty trained Crate trained (does amazing!) Fantastic on a leash Great with other dogs of all sizes Athletic + happy to be with you A note about her yard needs: Moira will do best with a taller fenced yard, because she’s athletic and could jump a shorter fence if she thinks she can get to her people. If you’re outside with her, she’s content and doesn’t try — she just wants to be close. Moira doesn’t need anything fancy… just what she’s always deserved: a safe home, steady love, and a soft place to finally call forever. If you’ve ever wanted to be someone’s whole world, Moira is ready to give you hers. Please fill out an application to have her join your family.  Her $450 adoption fee covers medical care up to adoption to include vaccines, spay, microchip, foster care and transportation from Louisiana to NY. ##2627844##

Story
RED is a handsome, fully vetted hound mix who is so super sweet! He does great with other dogs and just loves people, too. He's estimated 1-2 years old and weighs just under 60 lbs. He's playful and snuggly and his foster says he's a great companion. He loves rope and tug toys and adores the toys with the crinkle sounds, although destroys them pretty quickly. He's a sweetheart and his foster raves about him. He's got a lot of energy and would love either a fenced yard and/or frequent walks to use some of that energy. He's perfectly housetrained and loves his crate as a comfort spot. He's a bit too rough with cats, so we're saying no cats for him. 👉 Adoption fee INCLUDES: all vetting to age (including deworming, flea & tick etc), spay/neuter and microchip (if the dog is under 6 months, alter and chip will occur after they're 6 months, covered in full at our clinic or reimbursed partially at a vet of your choosing). If the dog is older than 6 months and not yet altered, we will schedule ASAP (normally within 30 days) at our clinic . We also provide as an incentive a $60 rebate for completion of positive-based training classes. Adoption also includes lifetime support of the rescue. 💜 Please click PURPLE BUTTON above to apply or go to www.secondhanddogrescue.com/apply ! ✍ APPLICATION PROCESSING: We do most application processing virtually and dog meets will be individually by appointment with ONLY APPROVED APPLICANTS. We are not a shelter and are completely volunteer foster-based, so there is no central place to come see all of the dogs available. 📌IMPORTANT NOTES: ** Housetraining with rescues is sometimes a work in progress and even if a dog is 100% in a foster's home, it should be expected there will be an adjustment period as a dog adapts to a new environment. This is even more true if the dog has not by chance had their altering appointment at time of adoption. ** Also, we highly recommend some form of 2-week shutdown and decompression for dogs going to a new home for best results. --> Lastly, breed guesses in rescue are just that (GUESSES!!) 99.9% of the time. We do not do DNA testing and our breed guesses are based on appearance and sometimes other traits, but we know the dog breed guessing game is a fool's errand even for those with LOTS of experience. 🗺 ADOPTION AREA: several hour radius of Rochester, NY (Canada within 3 hours IS allowed, except that young puppies need to be old enough to have gotten their rabies vaccination to cross the border - usually around 16 weeks)
