Story
Sinbad is a handsome, approximately 9-year-old mix of Rhodesian Ridgeback and Mountain Cur, weighing about 75 pounds Sinbad has spent his entire life on a horse farm surrounded by animals and family. He has lived with horses, cats, chickens, and another dog with whom he gets along well. He’s comfortable around horses, although he does enjoy trying to chase the chickens and cats if given the opportunity.   Sinbad loves being outside. Playing fetch and Frisbee are some of his favorite activities, and he always enjoys going for walks. As he’s gotten older, he’s become even more affectionate. A true definition of a lap dog, he loves hard. He absolutely loves attention from his people and will happily roll onto his back for belly rubs and cuddles. He especially enjoys relaxing in bed with the adults in the house and simply being close to his family.   Sinbad has grown up with four children and, for many years, showed incredible patience as they played with him, hugged him, and climbed all over him. As he’s entered his senior years, however, he prefers a quieter lifestyle and has less tolerance for the constant activity that comes with a busy household of young children.   One thing that’s important to know about Sinbad is that he has always displayed some resource-guarding tendencies with high-value items like his balls, toys, and bones. Once he’s finished playing fetch and takes his ball to settle down, he prefers to be left alone with it. Because of this, he would do best with owners who understand canine body language and are willing to simply give him his space when he has something he considers valuable.   His present family has grown over the years, and with children now ages 2, 4, 9, and 11, his home has become much busier than it was when Sinbad was younger. While he still craves attention and affection, he no longer enjoys the constant hustle and bustle. Now,  he deserves a quieter home where he can be the center of someone’s world again.   Sinbad would thrive in an adult-only home or one with older, dog-savvy children who understand and respect his boundaries. He would make a wonderful companion for a single person, couple, or retired family looking for a loyal, loving dog to share their days with. He has so much love to give and simply wants a peaceful home where he can enjoy walks, snuggles, belly rubs, and all the attention he deserves.   (posted 4/5/26, RH)  Adoption Fee:  $100.00  September 11, 2026, 4:00 pm

Story
Mumford is 12 years old and I have had him since he was 8 weeks old. He is a sweet dog but does have history with aggression with other dogs and people. There have been a couple of instances of him aggressively barking at neighbors, but he has never bitten anyone. He is generally mild mannered but will bark at knocks on the door and people walking by windows, etc. We have a 3 year old at home and Mumford can sometimes be a touch-me-not when it comes to his paws, tail, etc. With his age I’m beginning to worry about his patience and I don’t want any accidents to happen. At this point in my life I’m also not able to give him the love and attention that he deserves. Mumford is a good, sweet boy, but right now I think what’s best for him is to find a new home.

Story
Joe is a stunning 8 year old black mouth cur mix that is ready to find his forever family❤️ Sweet Joe has a strong desire to be near his people, always. He’s a cuddle bug and loves being where his family is! He is good at being a companion dog, he plays well with puppies & is a protector of his people! He will bark when strangers come to the door but once he knows they’re cool, he will be their new best friend🐾 This handsome boy can be an adventure pup or a couch potato. He loves to go for hikes and runs, but he is also happy cuddling up on a couch with his humans! He likes other dogs, but prefers pup friends with laid-back personalities so he can be the “big dog in the house,” or he would be okay as an only dog! 🐶 Joe has a strong case of FOMO, so he always wants to know what you are doing and where you are going. He likes to follow his people around the house and get into the things they are getting into. He really just wants to be near his humans & doing whatever they’re doing.❤️ Joe needs an adult-only household, or one with older children. Poor buddy is scared of little kids and deserves a home where he doesn’t have to be separated from little ones, and can roam his home as he pleases. He is kennel trained, but doesn’t need to be kept in one because he isn’t destructive & he is house trained! Joe is a good boy that deserves a soft place to land after his family dynamic has changed. If you have an older, established household, please consider adding Joe to your family!🥰 If interested in adopting one of our available pets, please fill out an application at http://www.dixiegirldogrescue.org/adopt-form Most of our are pets are fostered in Southern foster homes and are posted for adoption once they are completely vetted and ready to travel.
