Story
Randy is currently in a foster home in Delta, BC. Background: In December 2022, during the bitter cold of winter, Randy was rescued from a dog meat farm in Ganghwa, Korea, along with 50 other lucky dogs. At first, he lived in a shelter with other rescues, but the crowded environment was overwhelming for him. To help Randy feel more at ease, the shelter manager welcomed him into his home, where he quickly became happier and more relaxed. Now, he’s in a foster home in Delta, BC, where he lives with another dog. Personality and Socialization: Randy has a calm, medium-to-low energy level. He loves cuddling with people but never demands attention—he’s content simply being near you, whether resting quietly by your side or snuggled up for warmth. He gets along wonderfully with other dogs, especially those who are gentle and friendly. Thoughtful and respectful, he understands boundaries—if another dog needs space, he’ll patiently sit beside them without intruding. Randy has not been tested with cats or young children. Behaviours: Laid-back and quiet indoors, Randy is a relaxed and easygoing companion. He’s well-mannered in the car, at the vet, and even during baths—while he may feel a little nervous in new situations, he trusts his humans to guide him. He walks well on a leash and enjoys peaceful strolls. He is also fully house-trained. His gentle, affectionate nature makes him a joy to be around, and he thrives in a calm environment where he feels safe and loved. Health and Diet: Randy is in excellent health. He is fully vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped, with negative parasite tests, including heartworms. He takes monthly parasite prevention and eats dry kibble twice a day with no known allergies. Ideal Home: Randy’s mellow and friendly nature makes him a great fit for many types of homes. Whether he’s the only dog, part of a family with another canine companion, or living with someone new to dog ownership, he will adjust with ease. He’d make a wonderful walking partner and is just as happy relaxing at home, enjoying quiet moments with his family. Randy has spent two years waiting for a home of his own. While he has been loved and well cared for, nothing compares to the warmth of a real home. Having endured heartbreaking conditions in the dog meat trade, he deserves the chance to be a cherished family member. Randy is ready for a life filled with love, comfort, and companionship. Give him a second chance, and he will repay you with endless love and loyalty. He truly deserves to experience the joy of family life—a life full of cuddles, peaceful walks, and the happiness of belonging. Story
Mara is currently at her foster home in Vancouver. Background: In December 2022, during the cold winter months, Mara was rescued from a dog meat farm in Ganghwa, Korea, as one of 51 lucky dogs. She lived at our boarding house in Korea until her departure. She’s now settling into a foster home in Vancouver, BC. Personality and Socialization: Mara was a volunteer favorite, loved for her affectionate and easy-going nature. With a medium to low energy level, she enjoys cuddling with people but never demands attention. She’s obedient, calm, and easygoing—content just being in your presence, whether she’s sitting beside you or snuggling up for warmth. One of Mara’s favorite activities is sitting in front of the heater or soaking up the sun when the weather is nice. She’s also great with other dogs, especially those who are gentle and friendly. Mara is thoughtful and respectful; if another dog needs some space, she’ll quietly sit by their side without disturbing them. She has no experience with cats or young children. Behaviors: Mara is very laid-back and calm, rarely barking. She’s easy to handle in the car, at the vet, and during baths, though she might feel a little nervous in new situations. She’s always trusting and allows her humans to guide her through it. Mara is house-trained. While she’s great on leash, she can get spooked by certain stimuli, so a bit of patience and support go a long way. Her relaxed, cuddly nature makes her a joy to be around, and she thrives in peaceful environments where she can feel safe and loved. Health and Diet: Mara is in great health and has been well taken care of. She’s up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed, and microchipped. She’s had negative parasite tests, including heartworms, and she takes monthly parasite prevention. Mara eats dry food twice a day and has shown no signs of allergies. Ideal Home: Mara is a mellow, friendly girl who would thrive in almost any home. Whether she’s the only dog, part of a family with another dog, or with someone with limited dog experience, her gentle nature makes her a good fit. She’d be a wonderful walking partner and is just as happy lounging around and relaxing with you. Mara has spent two years at the shelter, where she is loved by the staff, but shelter life can never compare to the warmth of a true forever home. Raised in such heartbreaking conditions for meat consumption, Mara deserves so much more. We want her to experience what it feels like to be a normal, happy dog, living with a family who will cherish her every day. Give her a second chance, and she will repay you with endless love and loyalty. She truly deserves to know the joy of family life – a life full of cuddles, walks, and the love she’s been waiting for. Story
Sweet Cosmo came into the BCSPCA's care extremely underweight and in need of urgent veterinary care. It took Cosmo several weeks to gain weight in a healthy way, but now that he is finally approaching his target weight he is ready to find his forever home! Cosmo hasn't met a person he doesn't like (especially if they come bearing food!), and he gets along well with most other dogs, too!Cosmo is a very affectionate pup who has fantastic leash manners and is fully housetrained. He bonds very strongly with his people, and this smart boy loves to learn new tricks. Due to his background, Cosmo is a very talented and dedicated scavenger, so potential adopters should be prepared to keep him out of the kitchen while preparing or eating meals. We also don't recommend that Cosmo goes to a home with young children, as he will quickly learn to follow them around waiting for dropped snacks. Cosmo has been struggling with separation anxiety since coming into our care, so potential adopters should be prepared to start working on gradual departure and self-soothing training with him to help him handle any long stretches of time that he might be left alone. As he initially came from a home with other dogs, we think Cosmo might be most successful in a home with a calm, confident canine companion to keep him company. The staff at the Vancouver SPCA are more than happy to support Cosmo in his forever home, and are able to connect adopters with an AnimalKind trainer to jump right into training. Please come into the shelter during visiting hours if you would like to meet me. You can also submit an application online if I am in foster or you would like to save some time when you come visit. While we do welcome online applications, in person meets have top priority.dogs:https://spca.bc.ca/adoption/dog-pre-adoption-questionnaire/Our visiting hours are:Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday: 12-5Thursday, Public Holidays: closedSaturday, Sunday: 12-4 Primary Color: Tan Weight: 34 Age: 3yrs 8mths 1wks
