Story
Jade is a beautiful girl believed to be around 9 years young and is a Shepherd Rottweiler mix. Jade was originally a stray in the Louisville area in 2015 which is how she found her way to rescue where she has been waiting for a home to call her own every since. Jade has a zealous love for people and is always happy to meet new people. She doesn't believe in 'acting your age' and can still be very over the top when meeting new people wanting to jump, crawl into your lap, etc. She believes she is the perfect size for a lap dog and is an overall love-bug wanting to always be right with you. Jade has spent a fair bit of time around children and as long as they are okay with an abundance of kisses and the attention she supplies there are no worries. Jade has been known to get a bit over-attached and can be inappropriately protective if she doesn't have clear boundaries around her behavior. Don't let her age fool you Jade is a smart, clever, and stubborn girl. Jade has lived with other dogs her whole time with us and by extension has had to meet a lot of new dogs. She has a very dominant personality when meeting new dogs and can be a jealous attention hog when new dogs are brought into the mix. She understands that this isn't acceptable behavior and when verbally reprimand will stop but if the boundary isn't maintained she is happy to push it. Jade generally has no issue with other medium to large dogs and when she is with a group of dogs she knows she is general unconcerned with what they are doing. Simply put Jade is a pushy queen bee who doesn't like that challenged. Jade would not do well in a home with small dogs or cats. Although Jade is a "senior" she is still very energetic and enjoys romping in the woods at her foster home. She is an athletic girl and would do really well in a home with a moderate jogger or a hiker. Jade has a lot of love to give to anyone who is willing to understand her quirks. She is great in the house, loves to ride in the car, and has been waiting a long time for a home to call her own. Story
Jimmy is about 10 months old! Our best guess is that Jimmy is a Rottie/Shepherd mix. Jimmy is about 60 lbs and has spent most of his life in a shelter, so he needs a family to be patient while he gets acclimated. A nice, fenced yard would be ideal for Jimmy and another canine companion to help teach him the dos and donts. Jimmy does have one eye that appears to have trauma, and has been examined by a vet, which suggested we just watch for changes as of right now.  It appears he can see out of it.  If you would like to make Jimmy a part of your family, fill out an application at www.barktownrescue.org  JIMMY HAS A SPONSOR, SO IS ADOPTION FEE IS REDUCED TO $100     The shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of our dogs we are only guessing at the dog's predominant breed or breed mix. We strongly encourage you to select your new pet by looking at each dog's individual personality and pet qualities rather than relying on a breed label that is only our best guess.    Our adoption fees vary from $150 and up.  All of our dogs are up to date on vaccines, heart worm preventives, and flea/tick medication, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Portions of your adoption fee also help care for the sick and injured animals that we take in.  Thank you for supporting us and considering a rescue dog!    December 4, 2023, 7:11 am

ENERGY LEVEL: HighPERSONALITY/PHISICAL TRAITS: Large, Sweet, ActiveHello, nice to meet you! Even though my name is Coffee, I don't need any to have energy throughout the day! I am young and lively, so I would do best in a family with a big backyard or someone who could take me on walks often. I am also not a fan of cats, so I would like a home without them. I am an 80-pound gentle giant who really enjoys being pet and talked to. I am a really silly boy, too. My tongue hardly ever fits in my mouth and I'm always happy to see the humans here! My ideal day would consist of running around and playing followed by cuddle time and a nap. I am excited about life and can't wait to find my forever home!If I sound like your guy, give Woodford Humane a call at 859-873-5491! Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: Tan Weight: 74.6 Age: 1yrs 10mths 3wks

Story
READY FOR A PLAYMATE Meet Katoka, a two year old 48 pound, fast, agile, bouncy Boxer/Pit Bull mix. He is on the smaller side being very lean and athletic. This boy is fun to watch as he sails through the air and runs zoomies in the yard. He is a typical energetic Boxer. This boy loves to walk, play fetch, play tug of war, run with you, and does great at agility training. He is a smart boy who catches on to things quickly. He is a very affectionate guy who likes to hug and kiss his person a lot. He is also a bit of a velcro dog and will follow you around the house and likes to be touching you a lot. Katoka is very interactive and likes to be doing something most of the time. He is no couch potato. On the other hand he is very well crate trained and is content to be in his crate and is very comfortable sleeping there at night. Katoka loves other calm, well balanced dogs small or large. He has more of a submissive temperament. Right now he has a foster brother who he adores. Apparently he lived with cats before also. His ideal family would be ok with the fact that he is very protective of his house an needs slow introduction to new people. Our adoption fee includes: a collar, training leash and crate as well as life time support. Katoka has been neutered, had shots, and has a microchip. He has had leash training, knows sit, stay and paw. He has been conditioned to house noises like hair dryers, and vaccuum cleaners. He is comfortable having his paws, ears, and mouth handled, is trained to ride in a crate in the car as well as jumping in and out on command, and has learned to use a scratch pad to file his nails. He would do best in a home without children. We provide four training sessions as part of his adoption fee and would really like an adopter who will continue to do training with him so he can be the best fur baby. He thrives with structure and good leadership (like most dogs).

Story
Maleen, born April 15,2023, has the sweetest personality and desires to please her family. Super intelligent, learning so much that her foster Mom is teaching. In a short time Maleen has learned many commands and is wonderful with her leash walking. Maleen with thrive with any obedience class she is in, and let's face it the Dobermans are always top of the class! Maleen loves car rides, a perfect passenger. Excellent house manners too, only wants to play with her toys. Maleen does ok in her crate but doesn't like to be left in there for long periods but this is also being worked on by her foster Mom. Maleen was clearly loved by her original owners but didn't get much guidance from them but she is learning fast. Maleen does well with other dogs but does like to play hard. She met some cats briefly and didn't seem to react but being a curious puppy more than likely they will be fun to chase. Maleen needs an active family that will be around a lot to continue with her training. She won't do well with anyone that has to be away from home all day due to work. We will require a physical fence for Maleen.

Story
Toby, born 3/23/23, came to rescue for an all too familiar reason. A family got a puppy thinking the older dogs would like having younger puppy energy in the house but they rarely do. Toby is the typical velcro boy, always wants to be touching you. He is crate and house trained. Loves his toys and so far doesn't destroy the stuffed ones. Toby knows basic obedience commands and does well with leash walking. However he can be a bit timid on his walks so he needs to be shown the world isn't so scary. Toby loves to play with other dogs, maybe a bit too rough sometimes so he needs to be supervised. If you have a dog savvy kitty he will be ok with that but if kitty runs so will Toby. A game of chase is only fun for the dog, not the cat. Toby tends to feed off the energy in the household—whether it's another young energetic dog or young children. For the safety and sanity of the whole family, maybe not best suited for a family with very young kids. Toby will need a home with a physically fenced yard.
