LACEY is a 3-year-old female Boxer mix who weighs 55 lbs. She recently come into our program, and she's an instant favorite! She is unique in so many ways. She has the appearance of a Boxer, yet her coat indicates something else. It is velvety soft and plush. She is heavily speckled all over, like a Spaniel. Most of all, she has a personality that grabs you right away. She is that charming! She smiles and will readily give hugs and kisses! LACEY is currently participating in our Paws Behind Bars prison dog training program and doing very well! In a few short weeks, she has crate, leash and house-training checked! Now she's working on "sit," "stay," "down," and "come." So far, her social skills are good. She's met many inmates, in addition to her own, and she's got a wag and a hug for any of them. We are working her around the other adult dogs, and we are leaning towards a preference for male dogs. A submissive, younger female might be okay, too. Keep in mind, there are no outward signs of aggression, we are simply stating a preference. (We are all about the right fit!) Her overall energy level is moderate, and, in our world, that's a huge plus! Her perfect home? A fenced yard with an active family. Persimmon is looking for an adoptive home who is willing to work with her on becoming a respectable member of dog society!Persimmon came to us in very bad shape, with almost no fear and sores all over her body from demodex likely caused by extreme neglect. She was very ill for a long period of time but has almost completely recovered, with some occasional skin flareups. Persimmon is, as far as we can tell, about 3 years old, and seems to be some kind of pit/boxer mix. She’s crate trained, has a solid sit, and some basic leash skills (that at this point aren’t solid when there are any distractions).She is dog and cat reactive, but will move past quiet animals with consistent reinforcement/distraction. She needs to be crated away from other animals. We do believe that with slow introductions, positive training, and patience, she may be able to interact appropriately with other dogs.She is an incredibly happy dog who will play for long periods of time, whether she’s on her own or not.
