Story
MARR covers Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Wisconsin. Rush is being fostered in IN currently. However, transportation is available for adoptions within our coverage area.
Rush is a deaf one year old neutered male Rottweiler with a tail. He was born in a Nebraska
shelter and adopted as a puppy to a family. They loved him but didn’t have time to give him
attention or training, so he returned to the shelter. A second family adopted him and realized he
is deaf, but didn’t have the skills to train him; Rush went back to the shelter. Rush came to
MARR’s foster network in July 2025 and has proved to be a friendly, playful puppy. He adores
playtime with his resident dog friends, a neutered male three year old Rottweiler and a spayed
six year old female Rottweiler. Rush has gone to dog day care and boarding and thrives with
attention from people and other dogs. At home on walks he is learning to walk with a leash and
has no issues encountering people, cars, children, large trucks or bicycles. In his first home
Rush did live with little children and interacted well with them. Rush behaves well with vet staff
and has no issues with body handling or getting vaccines. He has learned to accept nail trims
and will hold still for those while getting pets and treats. He cooperates with having his teeth
brushed twice a day. For meal times, Rush has learned to sit and wait before getting his two
cups of Purina Puppy One. He accepts treats gently. Chew toys and balls are favorites for
playtime, and he really enjoys eviscerating stuffed toys. Tug of war is a favorite game he plays
with any dog or person. Anytime he has to stay at home because his foster person is out for
errands, Rush will gladly go to his crate for a nap. At night he sleeps in a crate adjacent to his
foster person. Occasionally it seems Rush may hear a distinct noise, or sense a vibration, or
pick up a scent and alert everyone with a bark of alarm. However, that alarm only happens on
occasion. Otherwise, he is a quiet boy who only vocalizes during playtime if he wants to initiate
play. Rush understands the hand signals to cue sit and down. He does not seem to be highly
treat motivated. Rather he really enjoys play and being with people.
