Story
Almost Home believes that every animal deserves a loving home regardless of appearance, age, or physical limitation.  We have come together to give animals in need the safe and happy life they all deserve.  Almost Home Animal Rescue believes that no animal is expendable.  Adopting a friend:The animals, lucky enough to find refuge with Almost Home, are all in loving foster homes. If you are interested in the possibility of giving one of the animals a new lease on life, please contact us. The contact information is listed at the end of each biography.  What you need to do to adopt:If you would like to adopt a pet in need from Almost Home, basically, an application must be filled out. We will check two personal references and a vet reference. If you are approved for adoption, there is a trial period of about one week to make sure this is the animal for you and you are the person for the animal. Along with the trial period, a contract must be signed that basically states that if ever you cannot keep the animal that you must return the animal to Almost Home. Last but not least, a home check will be done. Meet & Greets:An approved application is required. This does not mean that you have to adopt but that you are approved to do so if everything works out. Since we are foster based, this limits the amount of people coming to our homes.  Hi! I’m Peter Pan! I was rescued from an abandoned home along with my mama, Pixie, and sister, Tinkerbell. We were living under a house with our mom. My mama was brave and asked this nice lady to help us! She ran to her car and begged her to come save us too! We are now in a foster home, but we would love to have a forever home! I would love to be adopted with my sister, TinkerBell, we can keep each other company! If you have another kitty at home that's fine too. We can keep each other company also! We are both loving and playful. I am a cute little Russian Blue mix! My sister is a Manx mix with a shorter tail and big fuzzy tipped ears! We have had our first vaccines, and have been dewormed twice. We are up to date on our flea/tick and heartworm prevention. We are fiv/FeLv negative too! If you’re interested in adding me and possibly my sister (last picture) to your family, please let my foster mom know! Love,Peter Pan and TinkerBell! **Due to our size, no small children If you would like to meet your new best friend, contact the Adoption Coordinator at info@almosthometn.org or 865-236-0830. To fill out an application, go to www.almosthometn.org. If you cannot get it to work, let us know and we will email it to you in a different format. Unless otherwise noted, all Almost Home cats are healthy, spayed/neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, and flea & tick preventative. ****Puppies and kittens will be fixed when they are 5 months old. When they are adopted younger than 5 months, they MUST be adopted in East Tennessee.ADOPTION FEE: The adoption fee for a cat is $85. The adoption fee for a kitten is $100. The adoption fee does include the kittens being fixed and their rabies shot when they are old enough through one of our local vets. The adoption fee for a dog is $200. The adoption fee for a puppy is $250. The adoption fee does include the puppies being fixed and their rabies shot when they are old enough through one of our local vets. Mature pet adoption fees are sometimes reduced. The adoption fee for pure bred dogs and cats will vary due to health and age of pet. This helps support our ill animals and our mutts that get left in the system longer. We do reserve the right to change the fees higher or lower due to the circumstance of the animal but what was stated above are the usual adoption fees.  Microchipped pets will have a higher adoption fee.  Our adoption fees do not cover the cost of the vetting and care the animal has received with us and if it ever does, the money just goes back it to helping other animals in need. June 17, 2024, 4:22 pm

Story
Esme is a beautiful Russian blue mix. She was rescued from a hoarding situation (a mobile home with 40+ cats inside) and was already a young mom at about 9 months old. She took good care of her 3 kittens (gray like her) but as soon as they were weaned she was ready to be a kitten again herself. She can be wildly playful, but also enjoys looking at the window at the world. She probably didn’t eat well or often in the past, which can happen in situations where there are lots of cats and not enough food), so she can be nervous about getting enough to eat. But she’s been nothing but sweet and loving to her foster family. She has a lovely voice that she doesn’t use often and enjoys human companionship. She would also be fine as an only cat in a home where she can get lots of attention and introduced to toys and interactive play.  Although she was around other cats originally, she was prepared to defend her kittens from strange adult cats in the foster home. But now that the kittens are older, she is more comfortable with the friendlier cats in the house. We think she’d be fine other cats following a proper introduction, unsure about dogs. Esme is negative for feline leukemia and aids, current on her distemper and the vaccines, been wormed, had advantage for fleas, and been vet checked and spayed.  If interested in this cutie pie, please contact Holly at 865-671-4564 or hhfrey1@tds.net. We are a small, private feline-only rescue group dedicated to the rescue, care and placement of homeless cats and kittens. The majority of our cats and kittens come from high kill shelters. Through our application and interview process, we strive to make the 'purrfect' match to insure a loving, lifelong home for those in our care. We do NOT receive funding from any national organization, federal or state governments.June 17, 2024, 8:20 am

Story
Evander is a cute short-haired Russian Blue mix male kitten about 12-14 weeks old (DOB about 3/1/24).  He came from a hoarding situation where there were 40+ cats in a mobile home.  Evander was the smallest of all 40+ cats weighing only 0.65 pounds when he came to us.  He was underweight and malnourished but he has fully turned the corner.  He is named after Evander Holyfield, the boxer, because he really fought his way to good health.  He LOVES everyone as soon as he meets them.  He’s a really snuggler who likes to have his belly rubbed.  He is VERY playful and active.  He loves to play with toys or other cats and is never bored.  He likes to be held and to snuggle.  He gets along well with cats, and I think he'd be great with dogs and older kids.  He's negative for feline leukemia and aids, had two distemper vaccines, been wormed, had advantage for fleas, and been vet checked and neutered.  Additional vaccines (third distemper and rabies) included in the adoption fee.  Preference will be given to adopters who have a young playmate/companion for the kitten. We typically do not adopt kittens less than 6 months old to homes where they will be a solo pet. Story
Specks was rescued when she and the other cats in her family were booted from their home through no fault of their own. Making it on the streets wasnt fun, and now shes looking forward to a lifetime of catnip, wet food, and pats! Specks does really well with other cats after having lived with a variety over her short life, and she would do great with kids too. Shes very gentle! You may notice the scab on her nose - Specks wasnt thrilled about her carrier and accidentally scraped it trying to get out. Theres too much fun out there to be contained!
