Story
Eska is a beautiful young Alaskan Malamute puppy who came to BENCHS after her breeder experienced an accidental litter. Currently weighing 18.7 pounds, Eska is growing quickly and spending her days playing, wrestling, exploring, and learning alongside her siblings. Both of her parents weigh approximately 90 pounds, so adopters should be prepared for Eska to mature into a large, powerful adult dog.
Alaskan Malamutes are a remarkable breed known for their intelligence, strength, loyalty, and affectionate nature with their families. Originally bred to haul heavy freight across harsh Arctic terrain, Malamutes are hardworking dogs with incredible endurance and a strong desire to be part of the action. They are often social, playful, and loving companions, but they are also independent thinkers who can be stubborn when they choose to be.
As Eska grows, her future family should be prepared for a dog that will require ongoing training, socialization, exercise, and mental enrichment. Malamutes thrive when they have a job to do and enjoy activities such as hiking, pulling, backpacking, and other adventures with their people. Their thick double coats require regular grooming, and seasonal shedding is significant.
Because of the unique needs and characteristics of this breed, we are looking for breed-savvy adopters or individuals who have previous experience with Alaskan Malamutes or similar northern breeds. Eska deserves a family that understands the commitment involved in raising a large working-breed dog and can provide the structure, consistency, and enrichment she will need to thrive.
If you're looking for a loyal companion, an adventure buddy, and a puppy who is sure to turn heads wherever she goes, Eska may be the perfect addition to your family!
