Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption fee: $700 Jackpot is a 1–2 year old, 14 lb Terrier mix who proves that sometimes the best things in life come with a little spark and a lot of personality. Rescued from the shelter, he may have been shy for about 24 hours— but by day two, the real Jackpot hit the scene. The shell cracked, the joy burst out, and the snuggles began.   From that moment on, he decided his foster was his person. He happily follows from room to room, not in an overwhelming way, but in that sweet, companionable “we’re in this together” kind of way. He loves being near his people— curled on the couch while you read or watch TV, lounging on the floor close by, or supervising your day from a sunny windowsill while keeping tabs on the neighborhood squirrels and birds.   Mornings are his absolute favorite. He wakes up full of life, starting the day with cuddles, then a happy romp around the house before heading outside for potty time. Breakfast is served around 8 a.m., and dinner around 5 p.m., and he’s always ready. During the day, he rotates between sunbathing in the yard, watching wildlife like it’s premium entertainment, and engaging in what can only be described as professional-level toy management.   Jackpot is a joyful, energetic toddler at heart. He plays daily and has fully embraced the concept of toys— plural. Many, many toys. He’ll proudly bring them to you for a game of fetch or an enthusiastic round of “keep-away.” He chews with dedication and gusto, working his way through Nylabones, no-hide sticks, and anything appropriately designated as his. Like any curious youngster, he’s occasionally sampled items that weren’t on the approved menu, but with supervision and structure, he happily redirects to his own stash. He even has a charming habit of “burying” his prized chew sticks— either outside in the yard or, if he’s feeling a little lazy, halfway under the carpet with a strategic nose nudge. It’s a full production, and it’s hilarious.   He’s house-trained now and learned to use the doggy door, which was a total game-changer. Once he realized he could pop in and out at will, he embraced his newfound freedom. He doesn’t use potty pads and isn’t a fan of the crate, but he has settled nicely into a bedroom routine. He starts the night in his cozy basket at the end of the bed, though he occasionally attempts a stealth mission under the covers because, in his opinion, closer is better.   On leash, Jackpot is still gaining confidence. He’s learning that the leash means adventure and is walking better each day. He doesn’t pull excessively and doesn’t bark at other dogs. Off leash, he interacts well with a neighbor’s dog and seems eager to play. On leash, he’s cautious but polite with people— no barking or growling. Quick movements can make him nervous, as happened once with a couple of teenage boys who approached too fast, but he simply tucked his tail and moved away without reacting.   He will alert bark when someone comes to the door, but once visitors are inside and he realizes they come with cuddles and belly rubs, he warms up and then happily accepts the attention. When left alone, he may bark or howl briefly, but he settles, and it hasn’t been disruptive.   Jackpot strikes a wonderful balance between energetic and easygoing. He loves to play, loves to lounge, and absolutely loves to snuggle. He’ll gently wake you in the morning if you dare to sleep in too long. One of his funniest quirks? He refuses to fully sit if the ground is cold or wet. Instead, he performs an impressive half-squat hover that has to be seen to be appreciated. He also enjoys rolling onto his back and wiggling around with pure happiness.   Jackpot is a bundle of joy, affection, comedy, and warmth wrapped up in a perfectly portable 14-pound package. If you’re looking for a playful companion who will brighten your days, make you laugh with his antics, and keep you warm at night, this little Terrier mix is ready to hit the jackpot with his forever family.March 10, 2026, 2:54 pm

Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption fee: $650 Meet Count Chocula, a 7–9 month old, 13-pound Terrier mix who arrived at DPS from the shelter and immediately proved himself to be a total sweetheart. From the moment his foster picked him up, his tail was already wagging and his charming little face was ready to win hearts. With his expressive puppy-dog eyes, floppy ears, tiny gray beard, and a tuft of hair that gives him the look of a miniature wizard, Count Chocula is equal parts adorable, affectionate, and entertaining.   Chocula starts his day whenever his person wakes up, and he strongly believes mornings should begin with cuddles and kisses. After a snuggle session, he heads out for a longer morning walk before coming home for breakfast. Mealtimes are very important to him— he especially dislikes feeling left out of family meals and likes to be part of the action. After breakfast, he’s ready for a little playtime with his favorite toys before settling in for a nap at his foster’s feet while the workday begins.   Throughout the day he enjoys a short lunchtime stroll and another walk in the afternoon. Between outings he’s content to lounge nearby, keeping an eye on things or sunbathing by the window while he watches birds and listens to the world outside. In the evenings he relaxes with his people before heading to bed— preferably in bed with his human, where he typically starts out close and gradually migrates toward the foot of the bed. His sleeping style is just as cute as everything else about him: he often snoozes belly-up with his paws in the air.   From the very beginning, Chocula showed how friendly and easygoing he is. He explored his foster home confidently, followed his person from room to room, and quickly claimed a spot on the couch for snuggles. While he was a bit quiet for the first few days as he settled in, he was always affectionate and eager to connect. He does just fine riding in the car and enjoys going on adventures.   As he’s grown more comfortable, Chocula’s playful and hilarious personality has really blossomed. He’s a smart little guy who loves learning new tricks and proudly shows off his skills. He already knows how to sit, lie down, and spin, and performs each trick with a deliberate confidence that clearly says he knows he’s doing a great job—especially when treats are involved.   Playtime is another favorite activity. Chocula loves chasing balls or playing with plush toys and will happily do zoomies around the room before bringing the toy back for another round. He’s the perfect mix of playful and relaxed: he goes all-in when it’s time for fun, then happily curls up to rest afterward.   Walks are one of the highlights of his day. When it’s time to head out, he gets adorably wiggly while practicing his “sit and stay” so the leash can be attached. Once outside, he likes to start with some serious sniffing before settling into a confident, brisk walk. When he’s satisfied his curiosity, he walks beautifully alongside his person, head up, tail wagging, ears bouncing with every step. People passing by can’t help but smile at his proud little strut. If the pace gets too slow, though, he may zig-zag in front or stop frequently to investigate—he prefers a purposeful walk.   Chocula is very social and would love to make friends wherever he goes. He gets excited when he sees other dogs, people, squirrels, or birds and may stop to watch them closely. He’s particularly fascinated by kids and enjoys meeting dogs of all sizes. Because he’s still in his enthusiastic puppy stage, he tends to greet other dogs with lots of energy, so he would do best with canine companions who are comfortable with a playful, outgoing personality.   At home, Chocula is mostly house-trained and prefers to do his business outside when he gets regular walks. If the patio door is open, he’s happy to head out on his own. On the rare occasion he needs to go inside, he uses a potty pad. Like many young dogs, he can chew when he’s bored, so providing plenty of appropriate toys— especially softer ones—is important.   Because he loves being around people so much, Chocula can feel a little anxious if left completely alone for long stretches. However, he does just fine when someone else is around, and he’s been making great progress with gradual practice. A home with another playful dog or a family with kids would likely be a great match for him, since having company helps keep his mind busy and his confidence high.   The ideal home for Count Chocula is one that appreciates his joyful spirit, enjoys plenty of walks and playtime, and welcomes a dog who truly wants to be part of the family. Whether he’s snuggling close, proudly performing a trick, or bouncing onto the couch with his signature vertical “pronk,” he brings laughter and warmth wherever he goes.   What makes Chocula especially unforgettable is how much he simply loves life. He looks into your eyes with pure devotion, delivers the tiniest kisses, and celebrates everyday moments—like a walk around the block or a quick game of fetch— as if they’re the greatest adventures ever. He’s affectionate, clever, playful, and deeply loyal, and he has a wonderful way of making the people around him feel like they’ve gained a best friend.   In short, Count Chocula is sweetness and fun all wrapped up in one small, scruffy package— and anyone lucky enough to adopt him will quickly understand why everyone who meets him falls in love.March 10, 2026, 2:54 pm
