Hi… I’m Toffee 🤍 I came very close to the end once. Closer than I ever want to be again. But somehow, I was saved just in time… and now, I’m here, waiting for something I’ve never truly had before. A family. You might notice me right away. I’m a little different from most Shar Peis—my fur is fuller, softer… they say I look a bit like a bear. With my wrinkles and gentle appearance, I may seem strong on the outside, but inside, I’m calm and steady. I don’t bark much. I don’t rush. I like to take things slowly, quietly… especially when I’m somewhere new. I do love food though—maybe a little too much 😊 But that also means I enjoy learning. I already understand simple things like “sit,” and I try my best to listen. If you guide me with patience (and maybe a treat or two), I’ll follow you well. There are still things I need to learn. Living in a home… potty training… understanding daily routines—these are all new to me. I might not get everything right at first, but if you teach me step by step, I’ll keep trying. One thing about me is… when I bond with someone, I bond deeply. At first, I might be a little cautious. In a new place, with new people, I need time to understand that I’m safe… and that you are my person. So instead of reaching for me right away, it would mean a lot if you could wait—just a little—until I come to you. And I will. Because once I open my heart, I give you my trust, my loyalty, my whole self. If you’re someone who can go slowly with me, who understands that real connection takes time, then I promise… I will become your most loyal companion, your quiet strength, your steady, loving presence. I’ve been given a second chance at life. Now I’m just hoping… it leads me to you. Will you be my forever family? 🤍

Story
Hello everyone! I am a marvelous 8.5 year old, 50 lb probably Shar Pei/ Rhodesian Ridgeback mix. But there are other breeds in me as well as I am smaller than either of those breeds If you are looking for a medium size dog who is sweet and loving, cuddly, athletic and playful, then I am your girl.  I am originally from Turkey, where I was found on the streets of Istanbul before being taken to a shelter. I was named Banu, which is Persian for “lady” because I am very refined and lady-like.  When I first came to Canada I went to live on a farm, but it turned out the rabbits and chickens were a little too much temptation for me so my family reluctantly decided I needed to find a home free of small animals. I haven’t lived with cats but it is expected that my prey drive will make it unlikely I can live with them.  I have lived with numerous other dogs, and I am proud to say that I got along well in a dog-pack and enjoyed the large yard, rambles in nature, and the company of other dogs. Given my size, it might be best if the other dog(s) in the home are in the medium to large category. But I am just as happy to be your only one and have all your attention for myself.   In 2021, I underwent successful entropian eye surgery. My eyelashes were growing inward toward my eyeballs! Thankfully, the operation was a success and I healed perfectly. I am a quiet and sedate girl when hanging out at home. But when it comes time to play outside, I will pounce and leap and sprint and even rock climb. I am quite the adventurer. My greatest joy is having an opportunity to enjoy off-leash hikes where I can follow animal scents and bound up and down hill, while my humans slowly plod along. So an active home where I can get a couple of daily walks and a couple of hikes a week is best for me. A large fenced yard where we can have playtime together is also important for me as I love spending time outside sniffing and checking out the squirrels. Once I’ve had my outdoor time, I am happy to spend long hours napping, preferably cuddled up to a warm human. I enjoy being close and snuggling, often resting my head on whatever part of you makes a convenient cushion. I am a perfect, low maintenance companion for someone who wants a warm, quiet and non-demanding companion. I am great with dogs, even ones I meet on walks who aren't so friendly. If I get snapped at by another dog I just back away, understanding they aren't interested in making friends.  I have lived with a child and I truly love to spend time with those small creatures. I am fairly defensive of my own home so if I am outside at home I need to be on a leash as I could otherwise try to defend my humans from what I think is a dangerous dog passing by.  Like most dogs I don’t like my feet touched but unlike most dogs, I don’t like my belly rubbed. I am very happy when you rub my head and back, however. I just LOVE human attention and affection! Everyone who meets me falls immediately in love with my gentle calm and friendly manner. I will give perfect strangers a kiss on the face. I am well suited to just about any home.  I have been spayed, vaccinated & micro-chipped and my adoption fee is $650 + tax Disclaimer: It is important for all applicants to visit our website,  http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca/adopting/  and to read about Loved at Last Dog Rescue.  Most of the information included in the profile is provided to us from the international rescuer or local fosters. LALDR does not have access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of the descriptions. Remember, every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person leading him and the environment. Story
Hiya! My name is LUCKY and here is some info about me: PHYSICAL INFO: Breed:  Pittie / Shar Pei (??) mix Age:  3.5 years old (approx.) Gender:  Female Weight:  63.8 lbs (29 kg)  Height:  65 cm (paws to top of my head) Length:  83 cm (head to butt) Neck:  45 cm Chest:  74 cm Current Location: MEXICO CITY RESCUE STORY - I was found at the Mexico City Airport when the rescue team was there sending another pup to Canada. I was wandering in and out of the airport when my rescuers saw me. They put a crate on the floor for me and I walked right inside! It is believed that I once had a home because I already know how to walk on leash. I have been living at the shelter since August 2024 and am so ready to find my forever home!  TEMPERAMENT - I am a super sweet, loving, playful, and overall HAPPY girl (video). You can see from my photos and videos that I love affection - look at the pure joy and happiness in my eyes! I enjoy playing ball and loveee toys (everything from stuffies to bones). I love to go on long walks with the volunteers at the shelter. After my walks, I like to nudge or "knock" at the door to come back inside and eat some food. I am playful and affectionate, even with strangers. I love to get pets and belly rubs (video)! I am friendly with other dogs at the shelter (my BFF is a male shnauzer mix named Stefano)-- we slept in a kennel together at night until he was adopted. PS. I love carrots!! ENERGY LEVEL - Medium - I enjoy play time and lots of walkies with my trusted hoomans! Exercise is a must for me! Once I've had my daily mental and physical exercise, I'm sure I'll be content to snooze, cuddle, and accept allll the belly rubs! GETS ALONG WITH: Kids – Yup! Check out my video - I'm lovinggg the belly rubs!!  NOTE: as with ALL dogs, I should always be supervised around children and I need to have my space respected. It's important to remember I am a rescue pup with minimal training, so I may play nip or bounce/jump up on people (including children!) Dog's should also never be pet or bothered while they are sleeping! Dogs –  Yes! I have lots of pals at the shelter, and enjoy walking and the dog park with my fellow doggos!  Cats – No thank you!  PREY DRIVE - Unknown. I’m not too sure how I’ll react around squirrels/rabbits etc., so my adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise. TRAINING: Leash skills – Good/Fair. I love any chance to go on a walk! Although I follow basic commands, it's important to remember that I am a BIG, strong girl! So I need a confident owner who is capable of walking a strong doggo. My skills will need some polishing up when I am adopted. A well-fitted harness and some dedicated leash training will help set me up for success! House trained – Work in progress. Frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement will help me learn housetraining in my new home :) Please Note: WCP highly encourages adopters to do some research and training on their own before their dog arrives.  HEALTH NOTES: When I was rescued, I had very low bodyweight and was malnourished. I also had a case of Mange (skin condition). I received proper vet care and have fully recovered! I originally ate ROyal Canin food to help me gain weight, but now I have transitioned over to the shelter regular diet (which also includes daily veggies!) I am spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. I will come to Canada with proof of all my vaccines and test records. I will be tested for Heartworm etc. before flying North. NOTE: It is not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work/cleaning after they are adopted. West Coast Paws does not cover the costs of dental work and/or vet visits. These costs are the financial responsibility of the adopter. ADOPTION FEE: My adoption fee is $840.00 CAD including tax (5% GST, 7% PST), which includes my airfare, if a flight volunteer is found directly to Vancouver. ------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER: Please visit wcpdogrescue.com to read about West Coast Paws Dog Rescue and its adoption process. The info included in each WCP bio is provided to us from the international rescuer. WCP does not have in-person access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions, although we ask for video proof of a dog's attributes wherever possible. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person(s) adopting them and the environment in which they live.  WCP is unable to guarantee the accuracy of a dogs age and/or breed. These are strictly "best guesses" based on veterinary exams and their educated estimates. ##2240439##
