Story
Little Chickpea came from the same situation as "Juno" (another dog available through the rescue). She has not only been neglected emotionally and medically, but she has also been bullied by other dogs on the property. Chickpea is very quiet, clean in her kennel, food motivated, and well on her way to healing. She does not 100% trust us yet, but she has made huge improvement, and we can handle her, no problem. She allowed the vets to examine her and was very cooperative. She is hand shy, but you can still pet her. She has briefly been around cats and has no reaction. She will do well with other dogs that are nice to her. She has been the underdog her who life and picked on. Chickpea is a smaller girl. She is only 25-30 pounds full grown. She has the most adorable facial expression when she knows it's time to eat, or you have her favorite treats! She will make the best, loyal companion once she gets into a family that works with her and builds that much needed bond. She is a project pup, but you will not regret the time you put into her. She just needs a chance, Despite being neglected and picked on by every dog she has encountered, she remains the sweetest, most gentle girl. She has never fought, not even to defend herself. She deserves a loving home that will show her a life of peace and care. *CHICKPEA ALSO NEEDS A FOSTER HOME* If you would like to meet Chickpea, please submit an application https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/animal/66b189c45d6f9afa2c07afb8/68d8ab8a60f2a4a2ee01ff53

Story
Juno came from a very bad situation where she was left to her own defenses, medical needs were not met and neglected her whole life. Luckily, Animal Control stepped in and seized over 25 dogs off the property where Juno came from. It was immediately clear she had two skin infections, double ear infection, broken teeth, and demodex mange. She was also heartworm positive. She had a very hard time trusting humans, but has been sweet, cooperative, and gentle the entire process. She allowed our vets to examine her and treats her without growling, fighting, or biting. She is truly just a lost soul, who wants to be loved so badly. Because she was kept outside, she did not receive the one-on-one human attention dogs need to thrive. This led to a life of isolation. She is getting used to comfortable dog beds, treats, being inside and enjoying life as a companion rather than a forgotten about dog. Juno is being treated for all of the medical ailments we have discovered since her arrival. She still has a long way to go, but having a home waiting for her at the end of all this would be the ultimate happy ending for her! She gets along with other dogs, though she likes them quieter and calmer. She ignored the cats (we don't think she has ever seen one). She is very mellow, quiet, and crate trained. She prefers a place that she can hide when she is overwhelmed. She will start to follow you around when she starts to trust you. It's clear she is looking for someone to claim as her go-to human. All in all, Juno is a wonderful girl. She is what we would consider a "project pup" which means it will take time to get her to trust you and build her confidence. She has been through A LOT these past couple months. If you would like to meet our Juno, please submit an application https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/animal/66b189c45d6f9afa2c07afb8/68d8ac128c24101ee40855ca

Story
Our sweetest Moo Moo will be available for adoption. We are looking for a breed savvy family who is familiar with the characteristics and needs that Sharpei’s require. Moo moo is significantly smaller than the average Sharpei weighing less than 15 pounds at 6 months old. We don’t think she will be over 25 pounds. She is ALL puppy. She with find everything and anything to chew, make sure there’s lots of toys around! She is not housebroken either. Here are some things you need to know before applying for Moo Moo: 🐾Moo is 100% crate trained and is PERFECT in the crate all night long, not making a peep. 🐾She gets along with other dogs all sizes and breeds. 🐾She will chase cats and harass them to no end , but she is not aggressive and will not harm them. She just wants to play , but she will annoy them. 🐾She loves sleeping in bed with you. She is the perfect napping partner ❤️ 🐾Her fee will be slightly higher due to her breed. Please research Sharpei’s before inquiring. They are a wonderful breed but they are not for everyone. They make loyal, loving companions and generally bond to one person in the home. They can be particular with strangers, but it’s all about how you socialize them. They are prone to skin infections due to their hanging skin and folds. You will need to maintain a clean coat to prevent this. If you would like to meet Moo Moo, please submit an application https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/animal/66b189c45d6f9afa2c07afb8/68e6eda8b53b40d361071659

Story
Snowy, a near perfect dog! He is affectionate, loyal, smart, willing to adopt himself into your lifestyle: whether that is an active family, remote workers, retirees, hikers or sedentary households is fine with him. He is crate and house trained and sleeps through the night quietly and soundly. Currently, he sleeps next to a foster's bed. He doesn't want to sleep in the crate at night. He enjoys 30 to 50-minute walk or can be satisfied with very short walk. When you get tired walking, just tell him, "Snowy, let's go home" He understands and turns around to hit home, even though he is still very eager to go further. That's the kind of dog he is. You can't help loving him. At times, he may have zoomies, running around in the yard to shed excess energy but never messes up flower or vegetable garden. He hardly ever barks and loves to take a nap or to accompany us on a short or long ride. He loves affection and in particular he loves to have his butt scratched. Snowy is the easiest dog to care for and he would prefer to be the only animal in the home. Snowy’s fosters cannot say enough wonderful things about him! Questions About this Animal? Her adoption fee has been waived in hopes she can get adopted right away! **Ask me about our many adoption benefits that include free exams, pet insurance, training and other discounts! ESTIMATED WEIGHT FULL GROWN: 60 lbs, a healthy weight would be around 50 lbs KNOWN WITH DOGS: Zoey would prefer to be the only pup in your home so she can get all your love and attention. Once she has that, she doesn't see any reason to hang out with other dogs. KNOWN WITH CATS: Zoey had one cat test and did very well, the cat hissed and swatted at her and she backed away KNOWN WITH KIDS: We do not know how Zoey is with kids, though she would prefer to live with older children so they don't get their toys mixed up with hers! KNOWN CUES: Zoey is getting really good at Drop It with her toys, to better assist with games of fetch - which she loves! KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING &/OR CRATING: She is fully house-trained! KNOWN LIKES: The QUEEN of butt scratches, snuggling, toys, and napping. She enjoys fine dining of cooked chicken and wet food. She will walk with you until the road ends, and then ask if you can keep going in the opposite direction. KNOWN DISLIKES: Socks, she will eat them. She had to have gastric obstruction surgery, so keep laundry away from her. Having her paws handled. Sharing things with other dogs. Having her stuff taken away without proper warning. ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Zoey – Queen of Quirks, Collector of Hearts, Absolute Icon 👑 There are dogs… and then there’s Zoey. An 8-year-old Shar Pei mix with dramatic rolls, a flair for the fabulous, and the energy of a retired lounge singer who still insists on being called “Miss Zoey.” She didn’t choose the princess life — it chose her. Zoey lived a pampered, adoring life until her beloved owner passed away, and she suddenly found herself in the shelter. Heartbroken and confused, Zoey was understandably unsure at first. But after some time (and a generous supply of booty scratches), she emerged from her royal chambers ready for the extravagance she deserves! Let’s break down this living legend: ✨ Spayed & vaccinated – Because royalty comes fully vetted. ✨ Potty trained – Obviously. Zoe would never. ✨ Walks? Yes, but don’t expect cardio. ✨ Booty scratches? Mandatory. They’re written into her imaginary prenup. ✨ Table scraps? Must be delivered by hand. No notes. ✨ Loves older people? Obsessed. She thrives in the warm energy of people who understand that life’s better at a slower pace. ✨ Rescue favorite? Has her own fan club. Zoey is full of quirks. She has opinions. She likes her snacks a certain way. She will absolutely assist with your emails by lying on your laptop. She is equal parts snuggle bug, sass machine, and nap expert. She’s not here for drama — she is the drama, but in a deeply lovable, “you’re never lonely again” kind of way. She wants all of your attention, and may not be interested in sharing it with other dogs! Her ideal home? Peaceful, loving, chicken-forward. She’d thrive with someone who enjoys the golden-hour slowness of life, a few leisurely walks a day, and possibly sharing their sandwich (willingly or not). Even at her age, Zoey loves toys, and she loves people who let her play with her toys in her space, and offer appropriate trades when Toy Time is done. Zoey has known deep love — and she’s ready to give it again. If you’re looking for a loyal, hilarious, slightly bougie best friend who’s already perfected the art of living her best life… Zoey is waiting. Story
Fran is a sweet and bubbly Boxer mix who lives for treat time! If you love hanging out in the kitchen, she’ll be right by your side, ever hopeful that any bag you grab holds snacks. Her excitement is contagious — though she’s still learning to sit patiently for treats! This gentle girl is slowly coming out of her shell and learning to enjoy cozy time with her dog friends. She’s incredibly submissive and hasn’t met a pup she doesn’t like. When feeling overwhelmed, Fran simply retreats to her safe spot — often her bed or the kitchen. Walks can be a bit scary at first, but once she gets going, she really shines. She’s working on potty training and improving every day. Fran would thrive in a calm home with older kids and, ideally, another dog to help guide her. She came to us unsure of the world, but with love and patience, she’s blossoming into the sweetest companion. Fran is proof that a little kindness goes a long way. I adopted her from the Fredericksburg SPCA about two years ago. She is three years old. She is very lovable and protective over her people, She would be best in a home without any other animals. She will adjust with other animals it just takes a bit of work, I hate to have to give her away I love her so much she is an amazing dog, but due to unfortunate circumstances the place I had for her to go fell through, and I’m in the process of enlisting in Air Force and can be called to ship out any day.
