Story
Meet Lola Lola is a very low energy, laid back, follow you from room-to-room kind of gal. Sadly, she has spent her entire life being a puppy factory and being overbred. She came to us all the way from South Carolina because her time was up at the animal shelter. Lola arrived with a yeast infection on the skin, severe allergies, and overweight. The girl does not miss a meal. She is currently being treated for the skin infections, but we are still trying to find out what foods she is allergic to. Lola has the most laid-back personality. She is the sweetest girl and will plop down wherever you are. She gets along with other dogs. She tolerates large and small dogs but prefers dogs that are calmer. She will give them plenty of warning if they are overwhelming her, otherwise she walks away. She has been tested with cats, and while she is very interested in them, she is not chasing them (between her weight and chill personality it's not worth they energy). She has taken a liking to children. She is being fostered with a toddler that makes her tail wag when she sees them. All in all, she's a wonderful companion! If you would like to add Lola to your family, please submit an application https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/animal/66b189c45d6f9afa2c07afb8/6816b16de0c8277be104fda3

ESTIMATE WEIGHT FULL GROWN: 44 lbs - a perfect size! KNOWN WITH DOGS: Great! Gaia is a total wigglebutt when meeting other dogs. She is affectionate, liking to kiss them in the face, and playful, so she'd do great with another playful dog. She is very happy around other dogs, though she can get concerned when they get around her food and treats or people she loves. KNOWN WITH CATS: Great. She is a bit scared of them so currently will not walk by the household cat in her foster home. Very respectful of the kitty! KNOWN WITH KIDS: Gaia seems great with people of all ages. She has not met a human yet she does not love, and did great with kids in a previous home. Wiggles, cuddles, kisses, and just loves to be hugged. KNOWN CUES: Not sure yet. We'll report back. She walks VERY WELL ON LEASH. KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING: Goes nicely into her crate. May whine a bit to start but then quiets down. We are not sure yet on full housebreaking. KNOWN LIKES: People! Dogs! Cuddles! Playtime! KNOWN DISLIKES: None known at this time ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Gaia is going to make the perfect addition to a family who loves an affectionate, playful dog. She'd love another dog companion but can also be an only dog with humans who will play with her, allow her to meet other dogs, and cuddle with her. She walks well in an urban environment, seems to be crate trained and knows how to be calm in the home after her walk. She's the perfect size as we expect she'll be under 45 lbs full-grown. She loves cuddles and toys and loves to kiss other dogs and people the most! She is truly a gem! Gaia was spayed during her stay at Homeward Trails, and she is going to have surgery to address an issue with her knees.

Story
Meet Reuben – a nap-enthusiast meatball with more personality than most daytime TV shows. He may move at “rockspeed” most days, but don’t be fooled—this quirky gentleman has a signature move called Turbo Speed. Reuben is a world-class snuggler and professional nest-builder. He’s got tiny little legs, a slightly top-heavy bod, and the general coordination of a cartoon sidekick. Reuben considers himself head of home security, and let’s just say… he’s got strong feelings about strangers and surprise visitors—two- or four-legged. But once you pass his highly selective screening process, you’re in for life (and likely covered in snuggles). Reuben isn’t built for stair marathons, so a first-floor pad would be perfect for his stubby legs and big dreams. He's quietly loyal, ridiculously expressive, and thrives on cheek rubs and hearing he’s a “good boy.” If you’re looking for a quirky, affectionate, and a best friend who will love and protect you with every ounce of his soul, Reuben’s your guy. 🐾 Adopters have 30 days of free access to 1-on-1 text and email support from trainers at Petcademy to help make every pet's transition into their new home as smooth as possible. All dogs available for adoption have been spayed/neutered, microchipped and are current on all vaccinations. Please email dogs@henricohumane.org for more information.

Story
Meet Irving, a goofy and sweet fella who's looking for an active home! Irving knows "sit" and "drop," but he's still working on consistency. He's had positive interactions with other dogs and tolerates them well. We're not sure how he is with cats. He loves kids but tends to jump and mouth, so a home with older children or adults who can manage his exuberance would be best. Irving is a timid guy around new people but is very eager to please and super food motivated. He'd thrive with someone who enjoys an active, outdoor lifestyle, as he loves being outside. He enjoys flirt pole sessions and loves to "help" with chores like putting clothes in the dryer or bringing you your shoes (sometimes with a side of chewing!). Irving is also housebroken, though he may have accidents if he's feeling anxious. While he's not crate-trained, he's used to gates. If you're an active individual or family looking for a loving, goofy companion and are prepared to help Irving with some basic puppy training, he might be the perfect match for you!
