Where do we start with Mr. Reset. He is a new arrival to the rescue, so we are learning his ways. He was found as a stray...and to be honest, he does not need to go back to wherever he came from. Reset has severe skin allergies that have lingered on for too long without intervention. Despite it all, he is a very sweet boy. He's quiet and reserved, but you can tell he wants to be around people. Sharpei's are sensitive dogs that require a special family. They are dedicated to protecting their family and they form strong bonds with their owners. This can make having new people around a little uneasy for them. Reset seems to do well with strangers which is promising! He was socialized well. He does fine with other dogs. He is very curious about them at first, but then he just hangs out. We have not tested him with cats. He seemed to have a high interest in chickens. He does not react, bark, or growl...he is just highly curious. We will closely observe any high prey drive behaviors in foster care. Rest is crate trained and seems to be housebroken. He is scheduled to be neutered after his skin infection/allergies are addressed. He will make a wonderful companion for a family that is educated on this breed. Ms. Blue is a five year old female Shar Pei with a soft blue grey coat, a serious set of wrinkles, and no idea at all how dignified she looks. She came to us as an owner surrender, so we know something about the life she had before. She belonged to an elderly woman who could no longer care for her, which means Ms. Blue has never known anything but a good home, and it shows in everything she does. She is house broken, spayed, and microchipped, and she had a dental and good blood work earlier this year. She walks into a room, greets whoever is standing in it, and settles. Her first day at the shelter did not rattle her, and she likes every person she meets. For a dog who just lost the only person she has ever had, she is remarkably easy company. There is no unlearning to do with her and no bad habits to undo. She asks for a soft place to land and people who want her around, and that is about the whole list. She has spent her whole life keeping one person company and she would like to do it again. A few honest things before you apply. Ms. Blue does best in a home where someone is around most of the day. For the times you do head out, a heavy duty crate works well for her, and we will send one home with you. Bonus points if you already know the breed and do not mind a little wrinkle care. Ms. Blue can share a home with another dog, as long as it is a dog who gives her space when she asks for it. A calm housemate who does his own thing suits her. A dog who wants a constant playmate is not the right fit. She spent a recent adoption event in a crowd of children and was wonderful with every one of them, and she has been around the cats in our cat room with no trouble at all. Neither one is the same as living together full time, so we would still take introductions at home slowly. We ask that an application be approved before a meet and greet is scheduled. Introducing, Banjo! At 40 lbs, Banjo is a pint sized pup that thinks he’s one of the big boys. Our best guess is that he’s a cattle dog/sharpei mixed with some other surprise breeds tossed in. Banjo is about 3 years old and was found as a stray. Sadly, we don’t know what his life was like before ending up in a rural shelter. What we do know is that he is dog friendly, people friendly, loves his walks, play times, is crate trained, housebroken, and is learning leash manners. He’s young, energetic, and still very puppy-like. Banjo has already mastered ‘sit’ and is very food motivated. Treats are life! New tricks? He should learn quick if treats are involved.
