Story
Luke von Leese is a stunning 2 year old German Shepherd/Sheltie mix. Meet Luke, a handsome, fluffy boy with a sweet and gentle soul. He is a gorgeous black and gold dog with a splash of white. He must have come from a home were they left him for hours and hours in the house, he is so potty trained. He is so sweet, but needs a kind soul to show him the world is a good place. He is a low-to-mid energy companion who walks beautifully on a leash, walking calmly and staying close by your side throughout the walk. Right know he is trying to get some confidence to play with the other dogs. While he takes just a little time to adjust to brand-new places, Luke ultimately will be his happy self, he is so ready to find someone he connects too. If you are looking for a calm, shy sidekick who is so ready for someone special in his life, come meet our boy. He is still adjusting to his new world. Most of our dogs come from rural areas, so downtown L.A. is quite terrifying for them. He needs someone patient and kind. By next week, we might be rewriting this bio when our precious boy realizes he is about to live a new wonderful life! ps: He also tested well with cats so far! IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN Luke von Leese YOU MUST FILL OUT AN ADOPTION APPLICATION ON OUR WEBSITE: www.sheprescue.org Application link: http://www.sheprescue.org/Application_to_Adopt_a_Dog%20Main.html Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.

Story
Meet Coffeel! She is the sweetest girll! She is a 3 year old that was rescued from a kill shelter before heading to a dog meat farm in South Korea.  We have partners we work with there that pull these dogs from the worst horrors imaginable.  Many of these dogs start off in horiffic puppy mill type facilities on tiny rabbit cage size wire crates in complete filth.  If they are not sold at 6 or 8 weeks then they either stay for a couple years to be used to breed more and then are sold off to the meat trade, or they are sold off right away.  Jindo's and Tosa's are the most common meat type dogs, and are very commonly bred specifically for their meat and the meat farms also act as breeding farms until they reach a good age and weight. South Korea is one of the only countries that actually farms dogs for their meat.   Restaurants will serve a dish called " bosintang ", which stands for "dog meat soup". It's a popular dish in South  Korea,  and is said to act as an aphrodisiac for men.    Little dogs are used for elixirs and potions.  The younger generation is mostly against this practice and many choose to not eat them, and we can only hope in time with education and generations of change that an end will come to this horrific trade.  Coffee and some of her family and friends have been flown here for a chance at a future and a real life.  These are miracle dogs that they are alive today.  Our adoption fee is $600 which helps offset some of the flight costs.  If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application form at  https://form.jotform.com/oscarlucy/dog-adoption-app June 10, 2026, 8:53 pm

Story
Meet the sweetest boy Martin. He’s an approx 3 year old & 30lb Sheltie mix. Left out in dumping grounds with other dogs, Martin was taken in by an independent rescuer. He was malnourished, dirty, and extremely shy. Fast forward to today and Martin has grown into his beautiful coat and is learning to trust again. He doesn’t quite understand how to be a puppy just yet but he is extremely sweet and he’s making great strides. He’s currently being fostered with other dogs of all sizes and will melt into your touch, once he gets to know you.  We’d love to get Martin into a home with someone who will continue to love on him and bring out his personality full time and have a playful dog that will help teach him how to be a puppy.  To meet Martin, please apply at https://muttsinneed.org/apply/adopt

Story
Blue is a beautiful dog, (2 yrs)which I adopted about seven months before moving to college. I thought my mom would be able to handle him at home, but he was such an energetic dog. I had to give him away to a family friend fast-forward two years later I found out that family friend was abusing this dog and not giving him the care he needed. As a result, he has become quite traumatized and certain things set him off. He is reactive to feet, brooms and can get territorial over items, but he’s also the sweetest kindest most playful dog. He just definitely has PTSD from what he went through. Looking for someone who has the time and patience to train him. He knows basic commands like sit, paw, hi-five, spin, lay down, but he is a stubborn dog and chooses to not listen to his name when called. because of his reactive behavior, he has bitten before and I’m just still in the middle of school. I can’t keep him any longer. I just hope he can find someone with the patience and love that he needs.
