Look at those funny mismatched ears! They belong to Duke, a 1.5 year old, 21-pound Shetland Sheepdog/Terrier mix who is as lovable and adorable as they come. Duke’s days are a wonderful blend of snuggles, snacks, toys, and adventure. He loves everyone he meets - dogs, cats, humans of any size - and he will greet them all with gentle enthusiasm. Duke isn’t the type of dog who causes a scene; he’s the kind who quietly sneaks into your lap, sighs happily, and makes you feel like you’re the most important person in the world. Duke loves to horse around - - including with other dogs - - and he tackles toys like he’s auditioning for America’s Next Top Squeaker. Going outside is exciting for him - and sometimes a little spooky - but Duke is brave, and each day he ventures out with more confidence than the day before. He enjoys going for walks, even though he’s still learning that the leash isn’t a tug-of-war rope. He tries really hard, and he shows improvement every single day. At home, Duke is continuing to settle down nicely and figure things out. At times, he can be somewhat mischievous, and at other times, he can be an absolute dream come true. He’s pretty much housebroken, he knows that his crate is where he gets cozy sleep, and he shares his possessions like he’s running a doggy lending library. He’s busy learning all the important things like sit, down, no, and stay, and you can see the little gears turning in his head as he concentrates on how to make his humans proud. He’s smart, curious, eager to please, and extremely motivated by treats, a universally powerful force! Duke is the kind of dog who charms everyone he meets without even trying…even when he’s doing something he shouldn’t be doing. He’s lovable, joyful, silly, and ready to offer his new forever family a lifetime supply of comedy, companionship, and cuddles! Story
Ramona has lived a tough life and is looking for a family who understands that, and will treat her like the princess she is. Ramona came to Cameron Animal Rescue from Associated Humane Society of Newark when they did not have space for any more animals. Her history is unknown, but her body and her behavior tell a tough story. She was obviously well loved at some point, because she enjoys petting and attention and freely asks for it. But she is also very scared of sudden movements, unexpected touch around her head and neck, and any pressure on her sides. She is much more nervous with men. She knows commands - including sit, stay, and paw- and expects treats after performing. She is also perfectly house-trained. But she can be very scared and defensive if someone reaches into her crate, or when a leash is removed from her neck. Although she gives warnings if she is scared, if those warnings are ignored, she will nip. Therefore we are looking for a home with no young children and experienced owners. Ramona is approximately 5-7 years old, and is strong and healthy in many ways, but will need future medical care for some issues. She arrived with such severe, painful ear infections that she needed to be sedated to have them treated. Fortunately they are improving significantly; unfortunately she will need long-term treatment and management for her ears and potential allergies. She also arrived with an open wound on her face under her eye. It is visible in her photos, but it is almost healed and will not need further care. Her spay will be included in her adoption. She has few remaining teeth, but those will also be cleaned as part of her adoption. Ramona's adoption will also include- full series of DHLPPi (distemper), Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; fecal testing and deworming; heartworm and flea/tick preventive for 1 month; spay; microchip; 30 days of free insurance. Ramona is a special girl. She just needs to find the right family who understands her, and will give her the time, patience, and love that she needs to feel safe. She was found as a tiny baby walking by the high way, she was full of fleas and ticks and was not healthy. She did not know how to even be a puppy! She is now so happy and so healthy and ready to have a happy ever after! She is great with other dogs, cats and kids! She is utd on her vaccines, utd on flea & tick meds, microchipped and dewormed!
