Story
Meet Romeo – Your Loyal Sheltie Companion! 🐾Foster in Virginia Beach Va Romeo is a charming 4-year-old Sheltie with a heart full of love and a few extra pounds he's eager to shed. His previous owner adored him, but due to health challenges, she could no longer provide the care he deserves. Now, Romeo is seeking an active, loving home to help him embark on his next chapter. 🏡 Personality: Loyal and Affectionate: Romeo forms deep bonds with his humans and thrives on companionship. 🥰 Dog-Friendly: He enjoys the company of smaller dogs like himself and has a particular fondness for Collies and fellow Shelties. 🐶🐾 Quiet Nature: Unlike many Shelties, who are known for their vocal tendencies, Romeo is relatively quiet and does not bark excessively. Needs: Cat-Free Home: Romeo has a strong prey drive and will actively go after cats and caged animals, so a home without them is essential. 🚫🐱 Active Lifestyle: He loves daily walks and would benefit from a family committed to regular exercise to help him achieve a healthier weight. 🚶‍♂️🐕 Secure Yard: A fenced yard will provide Romeo with a safe space to explore and play. 🏞️ Consistent Companionship: Romeo is accustomed to having a stay-at-home parent and thrives in an environment where someone is present most of the time. Therefore, we are seeking adopters who either work from home without travel commitments or families with at least one stay-at-home parent. 🏠👨‍👩‍👦 Family Compatibility: Children: Due to his energetic nature and herding instincts, Romeo is best suited for families with children aged 7 and above. Younger children may be overwhelmed by his activity level, so older kids who can engage in structured play and understand respectful pet interactions are ideal. 👦👧 Adoption Requirements: Proximity: We are seeking adopters located within two hours of Virginia Beach to ensure a smooth transition for Romeo. Commitment: Given that Shelties have an average lifespan of 12 to 14 years, potential adopters should be prepared for a long-term commitment and have a reasonable expectation of outliving Romeo to provide lifelong care. If you're an active individual or family ready to provide love, structure, and daily adventures, Romeo could be the perfect addition to your life! 💕 Www.coastalsheltierescue.org

Story
🌼 Meet Layla, the Collie Extraordinaire! 🐾Foster Virginia Beach Move over, Lassie—there’s a new queen in town! Layla is a stunning 4.5-year-old Collie with a heart full of sunshine and a tail that never stops wagging. Rescued with love, she’s now ready to find her perfect forever home—but it has to be just right. Layla is incredibly loving, loyal, and sensitive. She’s what we call a Velcro dog—she wants to be by your side, your shadow, your snuggle buddy. If you’re looking for a dog who wants to sleep in your bedroom and follow you from room to room, she’s your girl. If you prefer more space or crates…she’s not. 💔 Layla has lost two homes due to her people falling ill, and the stress of separation weighs heavily on her. Because of this, we have strict requirements to ensure her next family is her forever. ✅ Layla’s Non-Negotiables: No children under 5. She loves kids, but toddlers are too much. Fully fenced yard. No exceptions! Someone home full-time or extremely limited part-time (no more than 4 hours away, one day a week max). If you work outside the home, you must already have another friendly dog for companionship—and your current dogs must be free-roaming in the house (no crating during the day). If you work part-time and have multiple small children but no other dog, we will not consider the home. Layla is not destructive, but she does not do well being left alone. She requires daily leisurely walks—yes, even in the rain! ☔ Her family must show the financial ability to maintain professional grooming every 6–8 weeks. If you or anyone in your household is currently facing a major illness or health crisis, unfortunately, Layla is not the right dog for your situation. (We’re not talking about manageable conditions like diabetes—we mean anything that could cause future instability in the home.) Layla is the kind of dog who will bring joy and comfort to the right home—she just needs a family who’s truly ready for the responsibility of loving a deeply bonded, affectionate Collie who will give you her whole heart. 💖 She’s spayed, up to date on shots, and recently had a dental. She lives for cuddles, walks, and being part of the family. 📍 Fostered in Virginia Beach 🌍 Adopters must live within 2 hours of Virginia Beach 💌 Apply at www.coastalsheltierescue.org 📩 Please message our Facebook page privately with any questions! If you're ready to share your heart, your couch, and your schedule with a loving, loyal Collie—Layla is waiting. 🐾✨

Story
Meet Maya! 🐾 The Sweetest Blue Merle Collie You’ll Ever Meet! Adoption within 1 hr of Virginia Beach required Maya is a stunning, affectionate Rough Collie—a blue merle beauty with a speckled face and a heart of gold. 💖 She's snuggly, loyal, and happiest when she’s part of the daily rhythm of her family. If you’ve been waiting for a gentle, soulful companion to share your life and your couch, Maya might be the one. 💕 Maya is also on the smaller side for a Collie, weighing around 42 lbs. She’s a little taller than a Sheltie, proportionate, and leggy—with all the grace and elegance you'd expect, just in a more petite package. 🐾 🌟 Why You’ll Love Maya: ✅ Snuggle queen – Maya lives for closeness. She’ll nap next to you, follow you from room to room, and sleep peacefully in your bedroom at night—never crated or alone. 🥰 ✅ Breathtaking beauty – Her coat is a head-turning blue merle, and her expressive eyes speak volumes. 😍 ✅ Dog-social – She requires a dog companion in the home. Maya does beautifully with friendly, playful dogs and has made several best friends in our rescue already. → Don’t have a dog? We’re happy to discuss placing two compatible dogs with you. 🐶❤️ ✅ Kid-friendly – Maya is gentle and sweet with children, best matched with calm or dog-savvy kids taller than she is. 👧💖 ✅ Respectful of cats – She’s curious but doesn’t chase or bother—would do fine with a confident, dog-savvy cat. 🐱 ✅ Playful but easygoing – She enjoys walks, toys, and romping around the yard, but also settles in beautifully once she’s had her time with you. 🎾 ✅ Loves chew toys – Having bones and safe chews around helps keep her happy and engaged. 🦴 🏡 What Maya Needs in a Home: 🔹 Stable home with a fenced yard – A securely fenced yard (minimum 4.5 ft) is required. She’s not a fit for apartments, shared housing, or transitional setups like military housing or moving in with family. 🏡 🔹 Work-from-home or part-time household only – Maya is a true companion dog. She needs someone home most of the day—remote work, retirement, or part-time hours are perfect. → If your dog is currently crated during long workdays or overnights, this won’t be the right fit. ❌ 🔹 No long-term crating – Maya must sleep in the bedroom with her people—on a dog bed, on the floor, or by your side. She gets distressed and vocal if crated or left isolated. 🛏️ 🔹 A dog buddy in the home – She thrives with another friendly dog. If you don’t have one, we’re happy to talk about pairing her with one of her known rescue friends. 🐾 🔹 Long-term stability – Maya needs a permanent home without frequent moves or big transitions. Families that relocate often due to work or military assignments are not a match. 📦🚫 🔬 MDR1 Sensitivity – Critical Medication Restrictions Maya is a healthy, well-adjusted dog—but she reacts dangerously to medications that cross the blood-brain barrier. She has had seizures and behavioral changes from vet-prescribed preventatives. It took months to recover, and a second mistake could be fatal. She has not been formally tested, but this is very common in Collies and Merles. Her history confirms she is MDR1-sensitive and must not receive medications like Bravecto, Simparica, Nexgard, or Ivermectin-based products. She does best with: ✔️ Interceptor Plus for heartworm ✔️ Natural flea/tick protocols with vet documentation This is non-negotiable. We’re looking for someone who understands MDR1 sensitivity—or is willing to learn and follow the protocols to keep her safe. 🧬💊💕 ✨ Maya is ready to bring joy, companionship, and heart-melting sweetness to a home that truly understands her needs. She’s not high maintenance—just a dog who needs to be understood, included, and loved. If you have room in your heart (and maybe your yard for one more), Maya is ready to be your girl. 🐾💖
