Story
Nico is a Malinois / Mastiff mix that is 8 years of age and around 65 pounds. He is impeccably trained with obedience and commands such as sit, stay, come, place and elevated commands such as "finish," and "peak," along with some basic scent work. He is extremely loyal to his "bonded" person and needs a savvy owner to build that mutual respect. This brindle breed mix is very intelligent and although he has lived with another dog in the past, we recommend his ideal environment be a home where he is an only pet to relax in his retirement years. He is a great companion for walks, lounging in the sunshine in a fenced yard and fulfilling the couch potato roll. He is at the age where he appreciates quieter surroundings. He enjoys human contact with his people. We would love to see him live out retirement days with a person who gives him attention, comfort, the luxury items of a comfy dog bed and lounging time in the backyard sunshine!

Story
If there’s one thing Rex is going to do, it’s strut his stuff! This handsome old-timer just keeps getting better with age. Rex is an American Pit Bull Terrier who is considered a senior at around 8 years old, but don’t let that number fool you. He’s still full of life, love, and personality. Rex has yet to meet a stranger. He has a wonderful, friendly temperament and enjoys spending time with his human friends. He loves a good snuggle once he's done romping around the yard. When it comes to other dogs, Rex has lived successfully with a canine companion and has shown playful interest in dogs here at HSOC, especially the lady dogs, who he makes sure to show off for. Rex was adopted in 2019 and returned to us in 2025 due to unforeseen circumstances, through no fault of his own. We know that in his younger days, cats were a bit too exciting for him. Any dogs in the household would need to participate in a meet-and-greet with Rex to ensure a good match. Rex is considered special needs due to his age and skin allergies. He currently takes a joint supplement and Apoquel to help manage itching and inflammation, and he will need to continue both after adoption or while in foster care. Rex also has a few benign, wart-like growths that have been examined and are not expected to cause him any medical issues. If you’re looking for a sweet senior who will bring love, light, and plenty of laughter into your home, Rex is ready to meet you. Submit an application with the Humane Society of Oldham County to begin your journey with this wonderful boy.

Story
If your ideal dog is handsome, charming, lovable, and rocking the world’s softest coat; Sarge is waiting for you at The Humane Society of Oldham County! This goofy, good-looking guy just turned a year old and is stepping into his prime. Sarge has so much potential with confident, consistent leadership, and he’s already turning heads with his impressive leash manners. One of his fellow HSOC adoptee brothers had a DNA test that revealed a mix of German Shepherd, Bulldog, Husky, and even Australian Shepherd. We definitely see the blend of brains, brawn, and beauty in Sarge! Sarge’s personality is the best of both worlds. Around his favorite people, he can be nonchalant, relaxed, and perfectly content to lounge the day away. But when it’s time to play? He flips the switch and becomes a rowdy, rambunctious goofball with his dog pals. He prefers playmates around his size, as small dogs have caused some stressful reactions for him before. When it comes to cats, Sarge has shown mixed reactions. He’s done well with some and been reactive toward others. A confident, dog-savvy cat would be the most appropriate match if a feline sibling is in the picture. Sarge has been out and about at adoption events and on several field trips, soaking up the world like a champ. He walks beautifully on leash, loves to explore new places, and has done well meeting new people. Our trainers and dog-walking volunteers continue to be impressed with his progress and potential. If you’re ready for a handsome adventure buddy with a playful streak and a soft side, submit an application to learn more about Sarge and schedule a meet-and-greet at The Humane Society of Oldham County!
