Story
Meet Stryder, a big, clumsy gentle giant who is looking for a patient family to help him navigate the world at his own pace. This sweet, goofy boy is the ultimate companion; he loves to follow you around the house to check on your projects, happily greets you at the door, and will gladly snuggle in bed while still respecting your freedom to roam. He is wonderful with other dogs, is finally learning how to play, and is so hilariously terrified of cats that he politely grumbles and avoids them the moment they set a boundary. While he is generally a quiet homebody who knows how to sit on command and eats perfectly in a group setting, he does express his excitement by barking out the window or letting you know when your car pulls into the driveway. Because Stryder is a sensitive soul, he needs an understanding adopter who will use positive reinforcement to build his confidence. He does not like to be pushed or rushed, which can cause him to pancake down and submit when facing daunting thresholds like stairs, kennels, doorways, or going outside. He is not yet potty trained and can be stubborn about going into the yard—though his foster family is currently trying walks to see if that helps him catch on—and he is still figuring out the general concept of walking on a leash without pulling. While he can be trusted outside of a crate, he does have a silly habit of chewing on cardboard products (keep your favorite books on a high shelf!), and he can sometimes be a bit pushy with smaller dogs, though he corrects instantly with human guidance. Fortunately, this handsome boy has no interest in escaping fences, is currently enjoying extra meals to help him gain some weight, and is highly treat-motivated, making him the perfect project dog for someone ready to trade a little patience for a lifetime of clumsy, sweet devotion. Stryder is currently staying in a foster home, if you're interested in meeting him, please email info@tailshumanesociety.org
