Zennia is a social, affectionate girl with a big heart for people, play, and being included, especially if it means you're getting in the car! She loves car rides so much that when you walk toward a car, her whole body wiggles because she thinks it’s load-up-and-go time. This girl is confident and unbothered in the best possible way. This means her foster family has had a front-row seat to the Zennia show and they shared with us so much of what they have learned about her! The first thing is the best! When asked what would make Zennia the happiest in a forever home they enthusiastically said- “A yard and a playmate!” Zennia is a wonderful playmate and truly thrives with the opportunity to run and roughhouse with a playful dog daily. The other side of that is that once Zennia has had her run/play/chase time she is more than happy to come in and relax but she needs that outlet, so a home with a playful dog friend and a big yard where she can get her energy out would be a great fit. In Zennia is both house and crate trained and benefits from regular crating. Her crate is clearly a space of calm and she enjoys the permission to “turn-off”and truly relax. In the crate she is quiet, calm, no barking, and no accidents. When Zennia isn’t getting constant attention (like during work hours), she is able to self-regulate usually taking a nap or quietly hanging out with a stuffy in her mouth. Zennia has met and lived with a wide variety of dogs from older, dominant females to small scruffy easy-going guy. Her immediate love connections have all been with dogs that equally enjoy play and are unbothered by a little rough-and-rowdy play. Her two best playdate-pals are about her size, one goofy black lab male and a female pittie with a body-builders physique. Both she runs and wrestles with, taking breaks here and there to soak in the sun before returning to a game of chase or wrestling in the grass. Zennia has shown really lovely dog-social-skills. She is respectful of boundaries, accepts even frustrated corrections, and has shown she can share treats, toys, and affection without concern. When she is working in a group for a treat she does this hilarious thing where she paws at other dogs who aren’t doing their commands, like she’s saying, “Hurry up, dude!” It makes her foster laugh every time! Zennia has been around kids in the home ages 4-17 (including a 17-year-old with Down syndrome/autism) and she is great! A few times we could see that when kids were invited over, Zennia was fast- friends with the kids- truly gravitating to them for play and connection. In the home, she has been the kind of dog who wants to meet everyone, love everyone, and recruit every dog into her “let’s play right now” agenda. She is quiet when people arrive, no barking at the door, no barking when people come in, whether she’s met them before or not. Zennia loves meeting people and seems especially fond of men. In general, she has warmed up quickly to new adults and kids who have been introduced to her and she really shines when she gets time to meet and bond with people, loving baby talk and treats. One of Zennia’s funniest quirks is her kitchen manners, because she knows she’s not supposed to cross the kitchen line… but she’ll sit right at the edge with her head peeking in like an eager little sous chef. If she can sneak in, she will try, and yes, she will beg, but she does not jump on tables or snatch food out of anyone’s hands, even with kids running around with food in hand. Zennia has been confident and unbothered by the world around her. No fear of cars, no reactivity to people and she handls normal outside noises plus things like an electric scooter without issue. She walks easily on leash with minimal corrections needed. Zennia has lived with chickens and although she can live with them if they are enclosed, she cannot be unsupervised around chickens because she will pester and stalk them, and even if she doesn’t see them, the sound of them gets her excited. Zennia will also benefit from a cat-free home, her love of chase and play does not stop when it comes to feline friends and we all know, cats do not appreciate that. If you know and love Malinois mixes, you already know what makes them so special- it’s their intelligence, devotion, and unstoppable drive to bond deeply with their person. Wendy here embodies all of that and more. Take a look at her here then come back to read more- https://youtu.be/XY_xeGiaC4Q Estimated to be about 2½-years-old, Wendy weighs 55-pounds fully-grown, and we believe she is a Malinois mix but given she is a rescue we cannot guarantee breed or birthday. She is also stunning with a soft coat of mixed brown and black fur, a set of amazingly alert ears, and the warmest eyes that just land with connection. Wendy has a dedicated foster who has spent time and energy into ensuring Wendy is best prepared for life in her future home. It didn’t take long for her to show everyone just how much love, joy, and loyalty she has to give. She lives peacefully with three other dogs -two females and one male - and plays happily with them every day. At home, she’s cuddly and affectionate, the kind of dog who leans into you for pets and nudges your hand when she wants more. She’s also well-trained and wonderful on leash - walking politely at your side, calm and focused. Wendy even completed two months of professional training (circle back to her dedicated foster), which helped her master basic manners and develop her natural intelligence. Like many working breeds, she thrives with structure, exercise, and mental enrichment. Daily walks, a good run, or a game of fetch will keep her happiest -she’s athletic, agile, and loves having a purpose. Outside of the home, Wendy can feel unsure in new environments. Me too Wendy. My solution is to just keep it simple- it works like a charm. If you are looking for her to be your tag-along pal please know it is not part of her natural demeanor but she can learn. She’ll need a confident, experienced adopter who understands how to help a Malinois mix build trust and decompress in a new home. Once she bonds with you, she’ll be your shadow, your biggest fan, and your most loyal protector. Because of her strong bond with her people, she may have a little separation anxiety at first, hello to most any and all shepherd mixes- they miss their people, but with patience, routine, and reassurance, we do know she settles in beautifully. Wendy does best with the company of other dogs and would love to be the +1 to another medium-energy dog. Not only does it give her a much appreciated playmate but it helps her confidence when initially settling into a new space and routine. She did meet our house cat and was respectfully cautious but we are recommending a cat-free home currently based on her foster sharing she has tried to chase a street cat. If you are interested in Maggie and have cats we are happy to do a much more thorough cat-test to truly determine her limit. Rory is one of those dogs who just blossoms when she knows she’s safe and loved. From the moment her foster got her home she knew she was going to going to get to see her in full bloom and she absolutely has. Although I spent a few hours with Rory, enjoyed her company and got to know her more, most all of what is shared here is from her devoted foster. With a front row seat she has the best view. She’ll let you know when she needs to go out, usually by whining and giving you that classic “let me out, please!” look. She’s a big fan of toys and loves playing fetch, though she might not always bring it back to you, its kind of her way of taking a break. She’s definitely part couch potato too – or in her case chair potato. Her favorite place to curl up is on the armchair, where she goes from happily watching TV with you to full on snoring. You’ll still be able to hear the tv though, they are just quiet little snores. Rory is estimated to be 5 years old, weighs 57 lbs, and may be a husky/lab mix. Of course, she is a rescue so age and breed are not details we can guarantee. Rory’s foster praises her for being friendly with people and great with kids. She shared that her two- and three-year-old niece and nephew adored her, and she was always so gentle and patient with them. On top of a variety of dogs, Rory met a two-month-old puppy during a recent visit at a family friends house and had fun playing and was so sweet on him. She lives with dogs and has met all sorts of dogs, big, small, young to old. She can be a bit shy during on-leash greetings but is polite and if she is not feeling comfortable she will simply keep on walking. Rory is definitely more of a dog-companion than a dog-playmate with her best match being easy-going dogs that don’t feel the need to push or insist she play. She doesn’t mind gently letting them know in her own doggy way that she isn’t interested and then moves on. Rory has basic leash skills and continues to learn in new environments. She recently got to tag-along for a pet-store run and was very polite but a little unsure of walking next to the cart but settled in after just a few minutes. Clearly she is a smart cookie and picks things up quickly. Her foster has praised her crate manners, calling her a rock star! She is quiet and settles into sleep easily. She also knows basic commands including “sit”and “lay down.” She also learns quickly and takes correction well. We would love to see Rory in a home with a yard, adding a family with kids to that scene would be the true dream. Rory does not need another dog in the home, her people and a few toys will fill her bucket each and every day. The only no we would encourage is no cats. Her foster has cats and will attest to her attempts to get a good game of chase in when she first met them. They are kept separate now after one curious moment turned into a little too much excitement, so a cat-free home is best. Overall, Rory is a loving, fun, and smart pup who’s just waiting to be part of your family. She’s come so far in such a short time and is ready to keep learning and loving with you by her side. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue.  While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs.
