Story

Mufasa & Simba: A Father and Son Looking for Human Kindness 🐾 Some dogs come into rescue with broken bones. Mufasa and Simba came with broken trust. Rescued from the streets of South Central, where they were starved and physically abused. This sweet father and son had learned that human hands often brought fear instead of love. In the beginning, they would flinch every time someone reached down to pet them. They expected pain instead of kindness. Little by little, they realized they were finally safe. Today, they lean into your touch. They wag their tails. They ask for cuddles. They have learned what it feels like to be loved. Now they’re waiting for their forever family. MUFASA (3 years old) the gentle, laid-back dad. His favorite place is by your side or with his head out the car window, letting the wind hit his face. He loves quiet moments, cuddles, treats, and simply being close to the people he trusts. SIMBA (1 year old) is his goofy, energetic son. He sleeps through car rides but comes alive the second it’s time to play. He loves zoomies, bath time, belly rubs, and making everyone laugh. Together, they are inseparable. They love running around together, playing with other dogs, pup cups, and yummy treats! They’re happiest when they’re together, doing the simple things that every dog deserves to enjoy. Their bond is beautiful. Simba still looks to his dad for comfort, confidence, and reassurance. Mufasa watches over his son the way only a father can. They have already survived neglect. They have already experienced fear. Now it's time for them to experience a life filled with love from their very own family. We’re looking for a family willing to open their heart and home to BOTH of them. They don’t need a perfect home they just need people who will continue showing them that love is forever. If you’ve ever wondered whether adopting could change a life, this is your chance to change two. We had them examined by our vet, and are in perfect health. They were initially very underweight, but with plenty of nutritious food, they are now a normal weight. They have both been neutered, fully vaccinated and microchipped. If you'd like to meet them and live in the Southern California area, please complete our adoption application found on dexterfoundation.com Please share their story. Their forever family could be just one share away. ❤️🐾

Story

Chica COH is a 2 year old spayed female Shih Poo with a sweet little presence and a personality waiting to be discovered. She came to us as an owner surrender, and now this petite girl is ready for a fresh chapter filled with new experiences, familiar routines, and someone to call her own. She’s good with kids and other dogs, but Chica has her own way of taking in the world. Give her a little time and you’ll get to discover the funny, affectionate, and endearing quirks that make her who she is. At 2 years old, she’s past the puppy mayhem but still has plenty of life ahead. Chica is ready for the simple joys of belonging—a favorite spot, familiar faces, and a home where she can truly settle in and be herself. We hold an event every weekend at our facility on SATURDAY and SUNDAY 11-5pm and open to the public. It is first come first serve we do not evaluate applications prior to an event. If there are multiple interested parties in the same dog or puppy at the same time we would pick the best out of the 10 applications. Please visit our social media platforms for the specifics for each weekend as it changes from week to week. Please find our application at lovejoyfoundation.org when you come to an event please bring that filled out in hand with you. You can find our application at Lovejoyfoundation.org. Please note a Petfinder and Adoptapet Inquiry is not applying for the dog. You have to come to the event or send an email inquiry to our records email.

Story

Datou is a 5-year-old Shih Tzu and Poodle mix who currently weighs around 14 pounds. He is a gentle, small-sized companion looking for a predictable environment to settle into. In daily life, Datou is quiet and easy to have around. He understands the concept of potty training and prefers doing his business on natural grass outside. When transitioning into a new environment, he may occasionally mark or have accidents indoors during the first few days, especially in areas where other dogs have previously left their scent. Once he learns the layout and routine of the house, he settles down. He is a low-maintenance dog who enjoys being near his people without demanding constant attention. Datou would fit well into a home with a stable routine where his owners can guide him through his initial adjustment period with patience. He is a steady, quiet companion who brings a calm presence to the household. He is an easy dog to live with, ready to find his permanent routine.

Story

My daughter bought him for me from a guy in a parking garage. He is mostly Lhasa apso. He was a great puppy, but tried dominating my granddaughter, who was 9 years old at the time. Oliver went through 3 different dog training programs, and the last one I was told he had resource aggression. As he got older I got bit a few times, but not in months now. He is on prozac, gabapentin, and hydroxyzine for anxiety. He gets anxious whenever my granddaughter is here, and he will growl at me. She hears it from the other end of the house, and is afraid. She is also autistic. My daughter, son in law, and granddaughter won't come to my home anymore. He is mostly great with me and my other daughter and he is a great watch dog. I am hard of hearing and he lets me know when someone is at the door. He is great at the groomers, and with other dogs. We also have cats and they play together. He doesn't always obey, but he will do anything for his ball, which I will trade to get him to take his medicine.
