Meet George! 🖤🐾

Sometimes called “Big George” because he is the largest of his three siblings, this handsome little guy could just as easily be called “Gorgeous George!” With his beautiful black coat, soft curls, adorable white chin, and little flash of white on his chest, he’s as striking as he is sweet.
George is a loving little boy who adores attention and playtime. While he was a bit shy when he first arrived in rescue, he has blossomed into a happy, confident puppy who is discovering just how wonderful life can be. His favorite part of the day is spending one-on-one time with his foster mom, soaking up all the love and affection he can get.
Like any puppy, George loves toys of every kind, although chew toys are definitely at the top of his favorites list while those tiny puppy teeth are coming in! At this age, puppies explore the world with their mouths, so an occasional playful nibble on fingers or household items is to be expected. Gentle redirection and positive reinforcement are helping him learn what is appropriate as he grows.
George currently spends his nights in a large puppy pen with his siblings and his days in a gated puppy room. While undergoing treatment for Giardia, the puppies have been separated from the resident dogs, but that treatment has now been completed. George recently received his next puppy vaccination and a full veterinary exam, earning a clean bill of health. Now the real adventures begin! It’s time for socialization, meeting new friends, and exploring all the exciting things the world has to offer.
At just 10 weeks old and weighing only 4 pounds, George is still a tiny little fellow. Because of his small size, he could easily become a trip hazard for someone with limited mobility, and homes with very young children should understand just how delicate he still is.
House training is just beginning now that his treatment has ended. Like all young puppies, George will need frequent potty breaks, patience, consistency, and lots of praise as he learns. He simply isn’t old enough to “hold it” for long periods yet.
George enjoys Fromm Puppy Gold kibble with freeze-dried Rawbble toppers available throughout the day. Twice daily he also enjoys rehydrated Stella & Chewy’s Freeze-Dried Raw Patties, and fresh water is always available.
Although direct interaction with the foster family’s dogs has been limited until recently, George has been safely watching and socializing with both dogs and cats through a protected fenced area. This week he’ll begin supervised interactions outside the barrier, giving him even more opportunities to build confidence and make new friends.
George thrives on being part of the family and would not be happy spending long days home alone. Like every puppy, he needs companionship, supervision, continued socialization, positive training, and plenty of playtime to help him grow into a well-rounded adult dog.
George has not yet been neutered. Leia’s Hope Canine Rescue recommends waiting until he is at least six months of age before neutering. His adopter will be responsible for scheduling the procedure at the appropriate time, and Leia’s Hope will provide a credit directly to the adopter’s veterinarian to help offset the cost.

A puppy is a commitment that may last 15 years or longer. Applicants should carefully consider the time, expense, training and lifestyle changes involved in raising a puppy before applying.
George is located in Troy, Missouri. Applicants must be willing to travel to the location provided after approval. We do not transport or ship dogs. Those flying must bring George home with them in the airplane cabin; he will not be permitted to travel in cargo.
Leia’s Hope Canine Rescue is a foster-based, volunteer-run rescue. Our volunteers process applications as quickly as possible, but applications generally take 7–10 business days to review. An approved application is required to proceed with the adoption process. Applying does not guarantee adoption, and applications are reviewed to find the home that is the best fit for each individual dog.
