The majority of the dogs we rescue, mostly breeder dogs, have lived their entire lives in less-than-ideal conditions so will need to be socialized, house and leash trained. Most have never lived in a house, walked on a leash, had a treat or sat in a lap. For many of them, their feet have never touched the ground after living for years on wire until they arrive at our main facility where they are evaluated, groomed and given vet care. Most of these dogs are not socialized and need to be cornered to be picked up, so are not suitable for people with physical disabilities or suffer from PTSD. They need folks who will make them the center of their world and help them learn to trust before even attempting to train.  Please do not apply if you do not meet the requirements of the dogs we rescue.  However, they will learn with time, love, patience and most of all, commitment. You must have an ample supply of all of these to reap the rewards of watching these very special dogs become your wonderful companion. We state any known health issues, all are altered unless there is a medical reason not to, which we will advise, any known medical issues addressed, are microchipped, are UTD on all vaccines and have been checked out by at least one veterinarian, usually two. We do not guarantee the health of any of our rescued dogs. The dogs we rescue have lived with other dogs all of their lives and most get along with other dogs. We state if they are dog aggressive. We require a permanent, full-time parent. That means you must be able to spend the majority of your time with your new companion to socialize and train. We do not, under any circumstances, place them in homes with young children as they have not been exposed to children, and we do not know how they will react. Please do not waste your time or ours if you are not prepared to adopt within 2 weeks and you are not willing to pick the dog up at its location. Hi! My name is Cameron, and I am an adorable Shih Tzu baby boy who was born 2/25/24, and I weigh 13 pounds. I would love to have a sibling to play with and learn from.  If you have been waiting for a gorgeous Shih Tzu baby, please ask for me on your application to http://www.breederadoptions.org. #### HIGHLIGHTS -Needs 4’ fenced-in yard or exercise area-Needs routine and an experienced adopter -Particular grooming/veterinary needs -Roadside Rescue = $100 adoption fee!Meet Bitsy, a loving, intelligent, and spirited dog with a unique personality and special requirements. Bitsy is a 2.5 year old Shih Tzu mix and weighs 13lbs. Bitsy thrives in a one-on-one setting and is best suited for a single-person household where she can form a deep bond with her person. Bitsy once was a solo-person dog, but with slow introductions and intentional handling, she has done well with multiple people sharing the love. Fiercely loyal and protective, Bitsy is devoted to those she truly connects with.Bitsy does best as the only pet but *may* coexist with a small dog after a successful meet & greet at the shelter. She needs a calm, structured home with someone who understands her need for space, routine, and respectful handling. Bitsy thrives in environments where she is the center of attention and can form a deep bond with her human. Bitsy enjoys engaging in playful activities like zooming around the yard and playing with toys, making her an excellent companion for active, engaged playtime. She does enjoy the attention from multiple people that she is familiar with but can get nervous with strangers. Bitsy prefers a gentle, one-handed pickup, and she’s most comfortable when she initiates the interaction, but dislikes being cornered or approached too quickly and can become defensive if she feels threatened. Her discomfort with handling is something that can be worked through with patience, consistency, and understanding.Bitsy walks on leash with pride but is learning to be more confident around new environments or other dogs, she struggles with being in close quarters with them, especially in a group setting. However, she is social and open to interact with dogs and people she knows, often greeting them enthusiastically by pawing at the front of her kennel. Bitsy is highly intelligent and will seek out opportunities to escape when new people are around, so she requires a home with a strong, consistent handler who can provide structure and clear boundaries. While she has made significant progress with training at the rescue (muzzle & crate training), especially during activities like going outside and entering the kennel, she will still need ongoing training to help her feel more comfortable in these situation

Story
Meet Demi – A Tiny Sweetheart with a Shy SmileDemi is a 7-month-old Shih Tzu who weighs just 10 pounds, but she’s got a heart full of love waiting to be discovered. This little girl is shy when she first meets new people, but once she realizes she’s safe and loved, her gentle, affectionate personality begins to shine through. She’s the type of pup who may need a moment to assess her surroundings, but it doesn’t take long before she’s snuggling up for some attention and showing off just how sweet she really is. Demi is learning more about the world every day and making great progress, thanks to her natural curiosity and kind spirit.Demi would do best in a calm and patient home that can give her the time she needs to fully come out of her shell. Once she feels comfortable, she’s sure to reward you with endless sweetness, quiet cuddles, and those loving puppy eyes that melt hearts. Before being rescued, many of our dogs had limited socialization, so they may need some time to adjust to life as a family pet. Older kids are often a great fit for our dogs, and homes with younger children will be considered based on each dog’s individual needs. Skills like house training and leash walking may take a little extra patience and practice. However, with time and a gentle approach, most of these dogs adapt quickly. Being a part of their rehabilitation is incredibly rewarding. To learn more about our dogs and start the adoption process, visit our website.
