Story

Meet Georgie — A Little Survivor With a Big Heart! Somewhere along the way, Georgie found herself alone on the streets of Houston, Texas, but this sweet little girl isn’t letting her past define her future. At just 2 years old, this adorable Shih Tzu is ready to trade the streets for a forever family. Georgie is currently missing sight in one eye, but you’d never know it by watching her go! She is completely unfazed by it and continues to happily explore the world around her. Before she arrives in Colorado, Georgie will have an enucleation to remove the affected eye, giving her the best chance at being comfortable and healthy moving forward. And this little lady already has some great manners! Georgie does well on a leash and has done wonderfully meeting other small dogs while on leash. She’s proving that life is full of new adventures — and she’s ready to experience them with someone by her side. Georgie may have started out as a stray, but her next chapter can be the one where she finally knows what it means to be safe, loved, and home. Could you be the family she’s been waiting for? Story

Meet Samantha! Samantha is an 8-year-old Shih Tzu weighing 17 pounds. This sweet girl is still learning to trust people and will need patient adopters who are willing to let her move at her own pace as she continues discovering that the world can be a safe and comfortable place. Samantha has had one of her eyes removed, but she continues to enjoy life and navigate her surroundings. She finds comfort in the company of other dogs and requires another friendly, confident canine companion in the home to help her feel more secure and encourage her to come out of her shell. Samantha is also still learning that the leash is a safe and positive thing. Because she is continuing to work on her leash skills, she requires a securely fenced yard where she can safely enjoy outdoor time while she builds confidence. Samantha can be more sensitive toward handling, but she has been making progress and becoming more comfortable. Our behavior team would be happy to discuss her handling needs and the progress she has made with any potential adopters. Samantha is looking for a patient, understanding family who will give her the time, consistency, and positive experiences she needs to build trust and feel comfortable in her new home. A required in-person meet and greet at our shelter is part of the adoption process to help ensure a good fit for Samantha, any resident dogs, and her potential adopters. With patience, a confident canine companion, and a family willing to go at her pace, Samantha has the potential to blossom into a wonderful companion.

Story

Meet Sassy! Sassy is a 10-year-old Shih Tzu weighing 12 pounds. This sweet senior girl loves being around people and is always happy to enjoy some quality time with her favorite humans. She also loves treats, making snack time one of her favorite parts of the day. Sassy gets along well with other dogs and enjoys having canine companions around. She also requires a securely fenced yard where she can safely explore, stretch her legs, and enjoy spending time outdoors. Sassy has special medical needs that her future family should be prepared to support. During a recent procedure, she was found to have persistent high blood pressure, and additional testing suggested a possible growth on her left adrenal gland that will require follow-up with a veterinary specialist to determine the cause. Our team will be happy to discuss her medical needs in more detail with interested adopters so her future family understands the care she may need moving forward. A required in-person meet and greet at our shelter is part of the adoption process to help ensure a good fit for Sassy, her potential adopters, and any resident dogs. With her sweet personality, love of people, appreciation for tasty treats, and gentle nature, Sassy is ready to find a loving family to enjoy her golden years with.

Story

Salema is a 2-3 year old Shih Tzu Mix weighing about 14lbs. Salema's history is pretty sad, but we are determined that the rest of her life is going to be filled with love safety. Salema gave birth to a few beautiful babies. Unfortunately that meant her family didn't want her anymore, and didn't want the responsibility of taking her of her babies either. The pups ended up passing away due to lack of care and support. Salema was on her own trying to survive and to keep her babies alive. Once all the pups passed away she was surrendered to the shelter. The shelter reached out to us because she was struggling after everything she had just been through. We immediately took Salema here in CO where we found her a wonderful, loving foster home for her to start the next chapter of her life. Salema has been here for a little while and is ready to find a forever family of her very own. She gets along wtih all people and loves other dogs, big and small. She is still pretty young herself, so she loves playing and romping around the yard with the other dogs. She is snuggly and super loving. She is everything someone would look for in a dog. Since she is lower to non-shedding, she will need to get regularly groomed to keep her clean, adorable, and feeling good. If you are interested in adopting Salema, please fill out our adoption applicataion at brighterdaysdogrescue.com ##2840932##
