She is11 pounds of solid little muscle wrapped in tenderness. When she hears her name, she offers the sweetest puppy bow and a playful tail wag, as she wiggles towards you. She loves closeness, not in a demanding way, but in a heartfelt one. She will lean into you, settle by your side, and offer soft, sugary kisses. When she arrived, her fur was severely matted and had to be shaved down completely. Beneath the neglect was a beautiful white coat with brindle markings that will grow back in time. More importantly, beneath the rough start was a resilient, affectionate little dog who still believes in people. It seems Pound Cake lived a secluded early life. Every day sounds and simple movements, doors opening, new noises, are still things she is learning to trust. She is discovering that the world does not mean her harm. With calm reassurance and steady leadership, her confidence grows each day. Out in the yard, she finds her joy.
